RedSox and Yankees will be in London next year on June 29-30

I kinda like it. They could do a two-game set, with each team giving up a single home game. And Boston/NY to London is basically the same distance as a flight to LA, making it logistically much easier than the Tokyo series the Sox did in 2008.

Here's what I'd do: bring four teams over for a week. Over those six or seven days, play three two-game series. Since all four teams would only be giving up three home games, it basically would be the same to local affected businesses as losing one three-game set. That also eliminates the slog of a cross-Atlantic travel only to get two or three games and have fly back. And sending, say, the Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays, and Orioles would eliminate any intra-division disadvantages from the travel as well. (What about the Rays, you say? Well, their disadvantage is that they're bad at baseball. Plus, if we're going to try to trick the Brits into liking baseball it's best we didn't let them know the Rays exist until they're at least four or five years into it.) The wild-card complicates that some, but the weighted schedules already make the wild card a competitive-balance nightmare. Jet lag isn't nearly as much of a disadvantage as 12 fewer games against the Angels than the Rangers have.

I like it too. They could do a Sox-Yankees 2&2 with an off day in between.

I don't see the point. Does MLB think it can generate interest in the sport in Britian? Wouldn't it be better off playing in Holland where there is already some baseball presence?

It's more of a novelty to the English, so the games should sell out. I love London, my favorite city, but I'll watch my Sox at Fenway or Yankee Stadium, thank you.

For one, there's been no watering down of talent in recent years. If anything, the talent has gotten better - MLB players are faster, stronger, and the game is rewarding all-around athletes (Trout, Harper, Stanton, Mookie, etc) while one-way players like Mark Trumbo aren't being signed as quickly anymore. Secondly, the younger generation as a whole *may* be less interested in baseball than older generations, but as a "millennial" myself (I'm 21), I assure you that there's still a ton of interest in baseball among my age group. This is especially the case for the Red Sox, and when we make the playoffs, basically everybody I'm friends with on social media is at least moderately interested. Plus, the World Series was a huge social media event, especially on Twitter, as I personally saw a ton of intrigued people who aren't usually baseball fans. MLB can play off the excitement generated by fantastic, young teams like the Cubs, and the Red Sox and Yankees in 2018 will seem to be teams full of young, impact talent that British fans could be excited by. There's really no downside at all to trying to expand baseball - at the least, it fizzles. If it succeeds, then MLB has given itself another talent pool and fan base, as well as a possible entry-way into more of Europe.

But, mostly, the idea that the talent pool would be lessened really isn't true. Baseball players of today are incredible athletes, and MLB wouldn't force British players in just because they're British if they don't have the skills.

After living in England, Holland, Germany among other places(not bragging I'm very fortunate I feel like holland, denmark or some of the other nordic countries would take to it. I'll put it like this, if you put a bunch of Dutch people in Fenway you'd get a better reaction than a bunch of Londoners.

Also, in general German, Dutch, Belgian peeps like us more than Brits in my experience.

Reallty surprised at some of the negative reaction here.  As long as the players are for it, I don't see any harm.  It really shouldn't be anyone else besides the Sox and Yucks. if it happens.  Do it right before the all-Star break and the players should be able to deal travel. It it a global world, at least I am told, it is a logical next step.

That will cause a lot of headaches for the schedule I bet. Ugh.

Why does Boston have to be the home team for both games so that the Yankees get two extra real home games than they do?

Because not only are the Red Sox the home team of New England, they are the home team of Old England as well.

This is fine I guess, but if mlb wants to “grow the game internationally” or whatever, maybe allow teams to actually spend money on foreign born talent again.

It's been years that I didn't get the chance to see my Red Sox live and that series is a blessing.
