I'd take Hernandez over Tobias. If you are talking in season replacements, no way are we thin at 2B. Holt, Rutledge, Hernandez, Marrero. Not to mention Betts if there was a long term need. ADD: By the way, if you read the write-ups on the Statcast all defensive team, Pedroia was the majors top 2B (Betts top RF) but it wasn't his range or arm strength that they wrote about. He's insanely faster than everyone else on his transfer speed. Now that you mention it, I concur. I'd prefer Hernandez over Tobias as well. I was thinking further down the pipeline, but yeah. Marco is a special player who will be a factor this year he can do too many things for us not to find a spot for him.

I kind of agree that there are legitimate risks at C, 1B and 3B, as well as OF depth. The rest of the team (especially the loaded rotation) may be strong enough to overcome that, but, just like every other team out there, this roster is far from bulletproof, and there are ways that it could falter.

I am little concerned that Xander and JBJ hit more like 2nd half of last year than the first. I also have very little confidence in Panda being productive. I do think the catching situation works itself out and the big three combine for 50-55 wins. I think Carson Smith becomes valuable at some point. I also think DD goes all in for another bat at some point finishes the hatchet job on the system, for something like Joey Votto.

Why would Xander or JBJ hit like one half or the other half from last season for this coming season?, they are more likely to hit like they did for the year. They've both had the equivalent of about 3+ years of at bats.

My realistic expectation is that just about everything with this team is as advertised. The rotation is above average, the bullpen is above average, the offense is above average, and the defense is above average. This looks like an above average team to me and therefore a good bet to reach to postseason. From there, it's a crapshoot as we know. But the Sox have the look of a team that will be playing meaningful games in September again.
If certain things break right (Sandoval returning to form, finding a solution at catcher) I could easily see 95 wins.

They were top 5 last year, and are adding Beni. I would rephrase a little, changing "is" to "should be" above average. I can't think of another team besides the Sox that was, ultimately, above average in all those categories in 2016 and has managed to improve in several of them. So we can say with considerable confidence that the Red Sox should, AGAIN, be above average in all those categories. Also, we have 3 good solutions at Catcher already. It's just a matter of finding the best solution. IMO this is far from a worry.
