It's generally a bad idea to plan on when prospects below Double-A are going to reach the majors, never mind ones who have never played in full-season ball. This goes for players of all pedigrees ("when Deven Marrero takes over a shortstop and slides Bogaerts to third...", "when Brentz becomes the right fielder," "when Matt Barnes is a fixture in the starting rotation,"), never mind ones as far away and as relatively regarded as a Cedrola.

The bus pretty much stops at #5 (and I love Raudes). And no love for Bryan Mata? If they're going to put Cedrola up there then Mata deserves some attention as well.

It's totally possible that he's never even seen Mata. Cedrola, on the other hand, has a full season stateside under his belt.

Understood but I wasn't projecting or planning on them as the replacements to Bogaerts and Bradley as much as I was trying to say that if you looked in the system right now, given the state it's in right now, those are the most likeliest candidates, as small (and I have been trying to emphasize that as much as possible) as those chances are, to step in and replace those two players if they leave via free agency. Obviously there's a lot more confidence in saying that if Sandoval stinks up the joint it's just a matter of time before Devers is up in Boston taking over 3b. At this point you look around the system and you ask yourself who has a chance (or maybe you don't), even if it's remote, of being a guy who could be the SS or the CF of the future? With Dubon and Margot gone, the answer is less clear. I look at all the other SS and outfielders in the system and feel like the odds are zero percent and that that Chatham and Cedrola at least have a non-zero chance. Having a non-zero chance and being counted on to be the guys who replace Bogaerts and Bradley some day aren't the same thing.

I suspect the replacements for Bogaerts and Bradley are not in the system today.

I suspect the replacements for Bogaerts and Bradley are not in the system today. Ideally, the replacement for Bogaerts is somewhere around the first grade.

I love how some people seem to think the Sox will be able to keep these guys long term and are looking for their replacements in system already. I get who their agents are etc, but the age curve for players seems to be getting younger (wonder why...) so in the case of Bradley, don't be surprised if they realize that signing an early extension may make the most sense.
Xander has had a strange start to his career. He's teetered between showing flashes of being a HOF type player and then borderline All-star... waiting on him the next 2 years makes a lot of sense for the Sox.
Extending any of these guys the last 2 years was almost made impossible by their other bloated contracts and their desire to stay under the cap. A lot of the projected value for the young players comes in the form of these super cheap early years which you lose with an extension. Not saying extensions are bad but in the Sox situation they couldn't do any.. once the league year starts and their tax resets then they should be able to work them out if they want to... assuming they don't make in season moves that put them over the line.
