I would like to see them bring in another player or two to compete with Rutledge for the last bench spot. Aaron Hill is still a free agent and might accept an NRI minor league contract with an early opt-out (a la David Murphy last year). Old friend Jerry Sands is in a similar situation and offers some upside along with some positional flexibility. I'm sure there are minor league free agents who fit the bill as well. Dominquez fits that description.

The topic of this discussion is RH bat not the amount of pitchers on the roster. It is another discussion for the board all pitching decisions are important and can make a difference and will especially in the playoffs. Right now our lineup against lefthanded pitching is weak Sandoval,Bradley and Benintendi how will they hit against LH. I know we add Young (Moreland) but he seems to be injury prone and we do not know how Benintendi will hit LH (it will good to ease the pressure if he struggles), I know Sandoval is skinny but still may have trouble against LH, and his defense is so good we can afford to carry JBJ in the lineup but adding the option of RH bat especially someone who can play 3B really enhances our lineup against all pitching. The player would be insurance for Sandoval who is skinny and motivated but does guarantee a productive player. point well taken. The thought process here is the number of pitchers on the roster helps dictate how many spots on the bench and whether there is room for another rh bat. The forecast now has 4 spots on the bench cv as catcher, holt as back up everywhere, Rutledge infield and young outfield. To get the right handed bat it seems you have 2 choices. One, one less pitcher so there is another bench spot open. Two, get rid of rut or holt and replace with someone else. Possibly a third. Replace moreland or Pablo with rh bat. Where do you want to go? I was exploring the pitching a little.

They aren't replacing Holt, Pablo or Morelenad or going with one less pitcher.

The Sox picked up Salesky as 1B/OF as depth for Pawtucket. Hit .314 last year at Cinci.

For what it's worth, the Sox just signed Mike Olt.

For what it's worth, the Sox just signed Mike Olt. Olt hit .255/.373/.404 last season... in the Texas League. In 774 Triple-A plate appearances, he's hit .234/.318/.429 with 233 strikeouts.

So it's likely not worth anything, if I'm not mistaken he was once a top 50 prospect in baseball, right? In 2013, which was actually kind of a loaded list. Some misses at the very top due to injury (Profar, Bundy) and performance (Shelby Miller) and a couple of tragedies (both Taveras AND Jose in the top five - seeing that yesterday made me want to cry), but it's a bunch of studs until you get to the late teens, early 20s and see guys like him and Zunino. www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2013/2614739.html

No worries, we'll trade Devers and Groome for Paul Goldschmidt when the time is right.

All kidding aside, I do think we should have a "Sam Travis promotion watch".
