This period will start in July 2, 2017. The main thing that has changed with the new CBA is the introduction of a hard cap based on the market size of clubs. The Red Sox will reportedly have a $4.75 Million bonus pool.
In the coming months we shall have more rumors as to who the Red Sox are going after.

I'd love to see a few more swings by Diaz. Looks quite pretty with a lot of natural power. His fielding needs quite a bit of cleaning up.

So there are no more opportunities to blow past the bonus pool limits? For some reason, I thought the caps were being implemented after the next signing period, and the Red Sox were preparing to spend like crazy. Am I off here?

It is my understanding that the hard caps begin for this upcoming signing period (2017-2018). So no teams get penalized for spending over the limit the previous year?

I think it's foolish that smaller market teams get more money to spend with a hard cap. Hard cap should equal same spending limits

Thanks for the link. You're probably on the mark. Unlikely it's a different guy.

Yeah, names of Latin American prospects can be tricky. Sometimes a guy will be in the system for years and you still won't know exactly how to spell his name. I remember a reliever named Ellis or Elis Jimenez who was spelled the former way on milb.com but the latter on anything else (winter leagues, his social media iirc, etc.).
I mean, hell, David Arias might be the best example, although typically they don't mess things up that bad anymore.

So nothing about new names being linked to the Sox for the July 2nd signing period? Not like we're allowed to overspend and get away with it like before. This sux!

But we didn't participate in the signing period last year :/ so I can see why there's no buzz regarding his article.

Shouldn't the Sox be saving their 5 million for Otani in this international period?

It's in the 2016-2017 signing period. Not the upcoming period.
