It's in the 2016-2017 signing period. Not the upcoming period. Then why does this thread say 2017/2018 signing period?

The Red Sox are banned from signing players in the current international signing period. Remember?

The Red Sox are banned from signing players in the current international signing period. Remember? Yes I knew that but this was apparently some special case and, if you follow the link in the article, that fact isn't mentioned although teams with other limits are, so I'm not sure of the status in this particular case.

I was a bit confused as I thought the Sox were initially restricted to a max of $300,000 for two years, then came the ban after we tried to circumvent. Whatever... the facts are..
2014-15 Sox exceeded bonus pool limits and were restricted in..
2015-2016 to paying no more than $300,000/ free agent. They were caught trying to bypass the restriction and banned for
2016-2017 signing period
So starting July 2 we are good to go.

This leaves the Sox out of the running for Luis Robert, the Cuban OF prospect, very much in demand. On a positive note, so are the Yankees and Blue Jays.

In addition to their ties to Danny Diaz, 3B (#13) and Antoni Flores, SS (#20), MLB/Jesse Sanchez says Sox expected to sign Daniel Flores, C (#2). m.mlb.com/prospects/2017/?list=intWow, high praise for Flores. Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 30 | Arm: 65 | Field: 55 Strong and durable, this young catcher has all of the tools to be an impact player at the Major League level one day. Some scouts believe Flores could be the best overall player in the class. Flores is considered by some as the best defensive catcher ever at his age, and he has the potential to be an elite defender in the future. Scouts also like his footwork, release point and the way he seamlessly transfers the ball from his glove to his hand. Flores also has a strong arm and quick pop times. On offense, Flores has a chance to hit for average and have plus power in the future from the right side. He has good raw power and has shown a mature approach at the plate as a righty. Flores is still fine-tuning his swing from the left side of the plate, but he is expected to improve once he signs and enters a team's academy. Flores trains with Jose Salas in Porlamar, Venezuela. He is expected to sign with the Red Sox.

It's been so long due to our sanctions. Remind me again when the July 2 signing period starts?

I know the rankings don't necessarily mean a ton, but to land 3 of the top 30 in the age of a hard cap would be quite nice.

I know the rankings don't necessarily mean a ton, but to land 3 of the top 30 in the age of a hard cap would be quite nice. With a hard cap, the other things that the Red Sox have excelled at under Eddie Romero - identifying talent early and building relationships - becomes even more important than it already was. I'd argue that the hard cap plays to their advantage. Nice to see it working that way.

I would wait until Badler says that he expects Flores to sign with the Red Sox before feeling comfortable. Not that I don't trust Jesse Sanchez, he is good too, more that I trust Badler more.

Then someone needs to get Badler on the phone stat. Whether or not we're about to inject Pudge Rodriguez into the farm system is kind of a big deal.

Maybe he heard those ridiculous hazing stories and didn't think that would be that fun. Or the Red Sox gave a bunch of money to his friends in a package deal. For those on mobile, the above is in italics, indicating sarcasm.

Thank you. Let's hope that is old news. The video was impressive. There was a time when we didn't do well internationally as you would know so even as we hampered ourselves, it is exciting that we still have a good process in place.

For its what worth, Badler chatting now on baseballamerica. I sent a question regarding the Luis Flores to the Red Sox reports. Nothing answered yet. If anyone else wants to apply pressure, please do.
