Now if they could just come up with a way to bring back the John Hancock flying windows. Does Haymarket Square still have the bronzed trash embedded in the streets ?

Simplifying is a tricky word here, right? If it means they've (and by they I mean either the coaching staff in general or Bannister specifically) found something specific and need to tweak it to make an adjustment, that's good news. If his control is a mess because his delivery is a mess and they're going to Bannister to help rebuild it then it is less good news. I realize this is a minor league topic but was started here and it's not really a spring training issue so... To me, what Owens had wasn't working and to my untrained mechanics eye, seemed too complex for a tall guy. I'm guessing the changes fall into the major changes category but that's pure speculation based on a few Farrell quotes that sound like Henry is committed to whatever it takes. But again that's pure speculation on my part. If the changes are major, it's obviously not good for 2017 but would seem that they are more interested in the long run here. To the plus side, Owens is still young and has an option for next year too. If the changes are major it's more than just the simple learning to repeat a new delivery because it will also require strengthening different muscle groups. If the changes are significant, I'd also expect him to be pretty bad for a while. Yeah, I agree with all of that. A big part of my worry comes from the fact that he's had so much success with his changeup and that was a big reason for his prospect status. The changeup is obviously such a timing pitch, and it seems likely to me that all those arms and legs coming at the hitter were part of that timing disruption that made his change so successful. On the other hand, he's made significant adjustments in the past. When he debuted, he had a poor follow-through, and he improved that notably by 2013. (PS I think this is kosher for the major league thread - he's on the 40-man, he's working with the MLB staff, and the problems are stemming directly from his performance in major league spring training).

Is it at all possible that Sam Travis hits his way onto the team? I don't see how, unless Moreland or Hanley gets injured, but he's definitely keeping himself in the picture this spring, eh?

Travis needs to dominate in AAA; he's never come close as yet

Kendrick with another outstanding outing. 5IP 3H 0R 0BB 6K and this was against the Ray's 'A' lineup (excuse the oxymoron).

Remember when Jackie Bradley "hit his way onto the team" and ended up screwed up for two years? Development matters.

I'll just add that it likely makes them a little more comfortable with deciding to call him up if he's needed rather than looking for trades if there's a major injury to Hanley or Moreland.

No - not in AAA; but he hasn't dominated any level yet, which was my point. I don't believe what's keeping him from the majors is his poor defense - that doesn't help of course; he's a slow-footed, average defender at best - he has to rake in games that matter; and if he does, he'll get called up one way or another. Spring training games mean next to nothing

Maybe it help him get to where he needed to be. Listen, I agree they rushed him and it was a terrible decision and they should have been patient but we have no way of knowing how far it set him back if at all. Some people learn from failure and it makes them stronger.

Does Kyle Kendrick's contract have an opt out or can the Sox send him to AAA?

Two and a half months into the season Kendrick's opt out is June but if they bring him to Boston, he won't have options to send him back so, if he gets called up or makes it out of spring, he's staying, he won't clear waivers. I view him as either major problem insurance or trade deadline material (even if someone else besides him was traded).

He's pitched far better than Owens or Johnson this spring and I think it's worth it to keep him in the organization

He's pitched far better than Owens or Johnson this spring and I think it's worth it to keep him in the organization I don't disagree with the general point but the question becomes what do you do when Price comes off the DL because the only two reasonable options would be to option Wright or ERod. I'd prefer to keep him in the role they acquired him for and if everything works out for everybody by his June 15th opt out, we're better off in the long run. To me, whoever takes Price's 25 man slot needs to be someone with options, like Barnes or Scott. I don't expect Price to be out long (hopefully) so, 5 starters is not a major issue to start the season. Pawtucket is a short ride. If Price is determined to be out longer than we are anticipating (or another starter), by all means yes, he's clearly earned the 7th starter slot but that shouldn't be used for a one or two week problem.

Wright is out of options. Good catch, my bad. Then ERod only among the starters.

If you can send Kendrick to the minors at the start of the year then you do. Putting him in the bullpen isn't smart. Keep him stretched out then make a decision when that time comes.

Just saw a tweet from Jason Mastrodonato that the Red Sox will have Steve Selsky play third base soon. That would be interesting if he could even be passable at the position. I have high hopes for Selsky as a bench piece

Who plays SS if Bogaerts goes down for any length of time? Holt is like a 1-week solution at best. Can Marco Hernandez play SS? Marrero doesn't seem like an answer.
I was thinking Zach Cozart; the Reds have been openly trying to move him for a long time; terrific SS (but has never played anywhere else in the majors), $5m, final year before FA. Presumably could platoon with Sandoval at 3B, would be a big upgrade over Rutledge; would put the Red Sox close to the CBT though; would Owens be enough? Probably not.

Marco's defense is a little shaky, but he's more than adequate for a fill in. He's got the arm and range. I have a feeling they would go to Holt a lot though if Xander would go down.
