Sorry if I have missed this......any news on minor league spring training game schedule? Appreciate it! The schedule is out. The games start on March 15 with the Red Sox AAA and AA at home and the A teams on the road all against Tampa Bay. The 16th is against the Orioles with the AAA and AA games on the road and the A games at home. The 17th as the same as the 15th and the 18th is the same as the 16th. The 19th is a camp day - no games. All games are at 1:00 except the last day of camp, April 1 when the games start at 10AM.
Went to the complex this morning for a brief time and I did finally see Joyce Ray (at least a player with the last name of Ray on his back) doing drills. I have this unrealistic hope he will be the next Daniel Nava. I am sure nobody else knows or cares about him except maybe his family.
I watched a few of the major leaguers talking batting practice on filed 1 this morning. Bradley Jr. was hitting ropes on every pitch. For a little guy, he hits the ball hard. Young, Benintendi, and another guy I didn't recognize were also taking swings.
I am retiring at close of business on the 15th. I hope to be able to get to a few of the minor league games after that.

SP crew will be in attendance from this coming Tuesday through Sunday. Granted, Ian's on his own for the first two days, but then I get in Wednesday night and the rest of the crew gets in Friday morning I think.

Intersquad minor league game this morning at the back fields. Dahlstrand was throwing for one of the teams. He came off the field after finishing an inning looking worried and complaining that is shoulder was not feeling well. Sure hope it was nothing serious. Rei was his catcher. Most of the guys on the other team look like players this site has projected to be golf coast league players. Another person watching the game today sitting quietly in a little golf cart was Louis Tiant. Still remember what a warrior he was on the field. There must of been about 30-40 other minor league players standing around watching the game as well. Only watched for an inning or two since we spent most of our time watching the major league pitchers working out on field 1.

From 108 Stitches today:
On Sunday, lefthander Jason Groome – the team’s first-round pick in 2016 – threw two perfect innings against Red Sox minor leaguers, striking out either four or five and getting numerous swings and misses with both his fastball and curveball. The fact that most of his opponents spent last year in the Dominican Summer League is important to contextualize the strong performance, but it is worth noting that Groome also punched out catcher Jake Romanski, who spent last year in Double A.

Anyone have information on seeing minor league games or any of morning practices? I am going down next week ( 19th through the 26th) and haven't been able to find much information online. Thanks in advance, I love the site and support you all yearly.

Yeah..It would be great if I could see it, but it is just blank. Read the text and I guess I would have to relearn English.

See Ian with a tweet where Devon Fisher was throwing 92-3 w a slider and change. I don't tweet.. facebook, any of that stuff. Saw Fisher several times last year at Ft Myers and he was able to locate his FB sometimes, but his slider was pretty flat.. Anyone this year seen enough to update?
My wife and his mom chatted several times also and I liked the kid somewhat as a prospect from what saw.

Kyri Washington 2 well hit ballls also deep but caught Was there at the same time. The Grandslam was really hammered. The leftfielder took one or two halfhearted steps and watched it go.
In the other game going on at the same time, Trey Ball pitched and actually looked pretty good. Pitched three innings and gave up one walk but nothing else. His fastball was pretty consistently at 92 MPH on the guns.

Something to keep an eye on, from Speier's newsletter:
"From the time that he entered the Red Sox farm system as a 30th round selection in 2013, Nick Longhi has been viewed as one of the best pure hitters in the organization. Still, because he plays first base/outfield, what he does well (hit the ball hard) has always been accompanied by a caveat about what he has not done (hit for power).
Longhi had 40 doubles but just two homers last year in 124 games with High A Salem. In a Double A minor league game on Wednesday, he nearly matched that total. Longhi hammered one ball to the warning track just to the right of center field, a ball that may well have cleared the fences had it not been for a stiff wind blowing in. In his next plate appearance, he drilled a ball down the left field line and over the fence for a grand slam.
The 21 year old worked this offseason with Florida International University hitting coach Jered Goodwin to lower his hands and to lengthen his stride slightly (by about three inches, he estimated) at the point of contact to create a slight upward plane in his swing. During the winter, the fruits of his approach were tracked with technology that identified the launch angle and exit velocity with which he was hitting the ball. So far this spring, Longhi said, he’s seen the slightly altered approach result in more balls driven in the air. If that translates into more homers — particularly as the weather warms in Double A Portland during the summer — without a significant sacrifice of his regular hard contact, then Longhi’s prospect profile could elevate in a way that virtually ensures he ends up on the Sox’ 40-man roster by the end of the year."

It is impossible to hit homeruns in Salem. The 2 homeruns didn't alarm me last year. Excited to see what Longhi can do this year.

Bogaerts hit 15 HR as a 19-year old in less than a full season at Salem, and he's not exactly a power hitter.
BTW, isn't it about time for Devers to hit like 20 HR in a season? I like game power a lot more than BP shows

I wouldn't use Xander as a great example to go to. He was one of the best prospects the Sox have had the past 10 years. Xander has always had power potential on any given year.
Not worried about Devers either, it's only a matter of when, not if the power will come. Just like it happened this past year with Xander this past year.

Because of his position inflexibility, Sam Travis almost needs to make it as a regular/semi-regular to have a place on the Sox's roster longer term.
Longhi, on the other hand, MIGHT be a perfect bench player for the organization within the next couple of years, replacing Young at some point. Since the Sox essentially have 3 CF in the OF at this point a backup OF really only needs to play the corners. And it would be nice to be able to hit LH pitching. Holt, a useful Longhi, and a 2nd catcher would cover most of the lineup.

Devers and Longhi have both had issues with their launch angle. They hit the ball hard, but don't lift it in the air often enough, which means they've both underperformed their power potential. This is not an uncommon issue. Some guys manage to add more lift to their swing in the upper minors or majors and end up breaking out (most notably, J.D. Martinez ( see link)). Other guys aren't able to do so, and underperform their raw exit velocity (think Christian Yelich and Eric Hosmer). We'll see what happens with Devers and Longhi.

Just one more note on the Salem homerun park factor.
Yoan Moncada had 3 homeruns in 220+ at bats and Benintendi had 1 in 120+ at bats.
So before rolling out Xander's name, just remember what happened with these two players too.
