Feel like there is usually some chatter by now and didn't see a draft thread. Sox with the 24th pick. Kind of digging Cole Brannen (who MLB.com has ranked 24th) and Shane Baz so far but admittedly, I mostly read/regurgitate and generally look forward to those who follow more closely.

Thanks for starting this. LHP Trevor Rogers (Cousin of Cody Ross) is from my hometown and has been getting some first round buzz. I went to his last start and saw about a dozen scouts checking him out. Will be fun following him this year.

Jeren Kendall is 2nd on the list. A former Sox draftee (30th round) was ranked in the top 100 by BA & PG. We really didn't have a chance (or the money) at signing him and being a Vandy signee made it even more unlikely.

Kendall is a great kid, played in Cotuit in '15 and spent a week there in '16 before Team USA - incredible speed, some swing and miss worries - cold weather player who is now heating up for Vandy

I'd be shocked if Kendall was there when the Sox pick.

Thursday night on SEC network there's two potential first rounders on the mound. Vandy's Kyle Wright has slipped some but still is probably off the board when we pick. South Carolina has Clarke Schmidt going who probably ends up getting drafted around our point in the first.

Sickels' report on UNC shortstop Logan Warmoth, whom I saw go 4-4 last night in a win at home. The report says he's "a virtual lock for at least the back part of the first round." "Warmoth is one of the safest picks in the draft, a polished college hitter who will provide batting average, OBP, speed, solid power, and has a chance to stick at shortstop. Right now he ballparks around the middle of the first round." Only a "chance" to stick at SS because the arm is strong but not superstrong. I saw one pretty good clutch throw from the hole--but not deep in the hole. RHH, .373 .451 .620 15-18sb. Bukauskas, a likely top-ten pick, had a no-hitter through 5, got hittable in the 6th, and finished 7.0 4h 1er 2bb 6k. Throwing 95-96 with two other pitches in the 80s. Both Bukauskas and Warmth are 6' tall Plus: NC State has a player named Brock Deatherage. And if you go under the 3b stands you can get the excellent BLTs from Merritt's Store, with a shorter line than for the bland food up top. www.minorleagueball.com/2017/4/14/15144070/logan-warmoth-2017-mlb-draft-ss-north-carolina

I like the idea of Warmoth as jimoh posted.
For outfield- how about if Michael Gigliotti slips?
As for pitchers how about if h/s lefty Jacob Heatherly or righty Blayne Enlow become available?

A lot of these sites rankings will be updated by the end of the month and I'm curious how high Warmouth shoots up the boards. With his profile I think he'll be gone. On the flip side Houston Cougars suspended Seth Romero who was in the 10-15 range on sites like baseball America. He seems to be slipping but at this point he's been suspended each of the last two seasons.
Brent Rooker (Miss St) is setting the SEC on fire like Benintendi did a few years back. He's a 1B/LF guy who tweaked his swing and is supposedly shooting up boards. He's a 4th year college guy so I'm curious how high he could go.

I went to the South Carolina game last night and ended up talking with a parent. He was telling me Wrens son played on the summer team with Wil Crowe and Frank scouted him several times when he was coming back from TJ last summer and has been back this season to see him live. Nothing earth shattering but thought I would share since most publications have him around our draft pick range.

About 20 scouts here to see Trevor Rogers pitch tonight.

Rogers threw a (mercy rule shortened) perfect game. 5IP 12k. Fastball was 88-91 slider was around 76.

They have Baz going at 14. I mentioned him in the fist post ...read the write up on him on the MLB top 50 where he was ranked 42, watched some video and thought he might be a riser. Definitely seems to have a nice array of potential average to plus pitches with an athletic and clean delivery.

Hagen Danner from Huntington Beach California? On the one to "Dansby Swanson" scale of 80's movie rich-kid antagonist names, that's a solid 9.75.

I heard he followed Matt Barnes after the game Sunday. Big maturity red flag.
