I think Matt Sauer is a great choice.
1. Good built, 195lb 2. Good mechanics 3. Great Stuff with good command, Fastball up to 97 miles with movement, plus slider
as the Vedeo below, he is only 16 years old
the recent pitching vedeo as below

He might be a fun late draft snag…. Power numbers are apparently off the charts

Please go college pitcher or hitter with 1st pick. Either Burger or Peterson would be a complete steal.

They say Hiura will be long gone (15th to the Astros) by the time the Red Sox pick at 24.

Any word on Colton Hoch - RHP - STanford? He's a local kid from Bloomsburg, Pa. Was a good prospect our of high school but chose college. Stanford converted him to a reliever. Big kid. Would think he projects as a starter.

Vandy's 3B Will Toffey had a heck of a regional with 3 HRs. He's seems like he'd be a good pick in rounds 3-5.

Is Seth Romero worth taking? How bad are his off field issues? Talent wise it seems like a good fit. You might also get him to sign below slot due to his issues.

Yeah I wouldn't touch Romero with our first round pick. No way. His talent doesn't seem that much greater (if at all) than the alternative potential options at #24 to risk his behavior. My current board of feasible options is something like:
1. David Peterson – LHP (although I feel like he has moved up to the 10-20 range so he's pretty unlikely to be here) 2. Evan White – 1B/OF 3. Tanner Houck – RHP 4. Keston Hiura – 2B/OF/DH 5. Griffin Canning – RHP 6. Blayne Enlow – RHP 7. Bubba Thompson – OF 8. Hans Crouse – RHP 9. Nate Pearson – RHP 10. Nick Allen – SS

I'm wondering if this list is your preferences for who the Red Sox take based on who might be there or merely who might still be there at 24? If its the latter, are there reports linking the Red Sox to any of these people?

Nothing horrible about Romero. You would really need to do your homework on the guy. Is it just being young and stupid or does he have real issues. I certainly wouldn't remove him from my board till I knew more. Money would be a huge key for me. An advanced lhp with his arm might be worth the gamble at 24 depending who is available.

It's incredibly disappointing to see a player like Romero decimate his draft stock with absurd off the field behavior. But the part that concerns me the most isn't what he's done. I'm far more concerned that he thought anyone would believe his ridiculous excuses.
I really wish more athletes would admit they did something wrong and move on from there, instead of making asinine excuses that only make you look like more of an idiot.

While posing with a bong is not a huge deal for kids his age, the fact that he knew or should have known the repercussions of doing that and getting caught and did it anyway shows really poor judgement IMO. He'll probably go to the Yankees anyway.

I'm not sure I understand your distinction, but these are guys generally projected to go between say 15-35, although there is quite a bit of a disagreement across mocks. So that said, I created a top 10 for guys who I think have a reasonable chance to be available at #24, although Peterson is probably the least likely to be there (some mocks now have him between 10-15). I think the Sox have done a really good job of keeping quiet on their first round picks, so I wouldn't read too much into reports that link us with a specific player. If I recall correctly, Ball and Kopech were complete surprises. Chavis was not heavily linked to us. Benintendi was a pretty common pick in mocks but mainly because he simply looked like the best player available at 7 in most mocks. Even Groome wasn't linked to us last year although I think most didn't expect he would be available. That said, K-Law said he heard about the Sox being in on Hiura, and we have a history with Peterson having drafted him back in 2014. Frankie Pilliere reported that he's heard reports on the Sox being in on Pearson. Thats all I have.

He's obviously got some maturity issues, but it's pretty amazing these days what that constitutes. Back in the '80s-90s it was DUIs, assaults, rape accusations, and stolen property. Hell, even Buchholz stole some computers. In the right environment, a guy like this could be a beast. The question is, of course, if the Sox are at all like the Pats and can/have created a culture of responsibility. Early in the thread I mentioned Romero, and I still like the idea. It's risky, but he's got TOR upside. Certainly no more risky than a HS arm.
