13 years ago was my start in professional baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies. Grateful for every opportunity with ever organization throughout my journey. Can’t retire in the minors... so I quit! 🤣 New chapter starts now with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Most frustrating pitcher ever. Yep. Imagine being the most frustrating pitcher on a team that has Clay Buchholz. Matsuzaka's 2007-08 were pretty good too! Which just added to the frustration, of course. Buchholz and Matsuzaka were so similar in that even when they were pitching well it felt like they weren't.

Yelich? The Sox could have had him?
The Sox missed out on Carlos Martinez, Alex Bregman, and Christian Yellich throughout the years?
That kind of stings, but it goes to show that this farm system can really identify talent at a young age. That's a really good pitcher and 2 mvp candidates right there.

Went back through the 2010 draft thread on the old board ( www.tapatalk.com/groups/redsoxprospects57174/draft-day-thread-t5769.html, pick gets made around page 32 I think) and found this gem of a post: Later in the thread one poster compared it to Rod Blagojevich and I compared him to a darker-haired Donald Trump. Anyway, NOBODY was talking about Yelich at the pick. Seems like Zack Cox was the one everyone wanted there. Lots of people liked Austin Wilson too. Brentz, Ranaudo, and Workman were also getting mentioned there, funnily enough. EDIT: Oh wow, another gem: (A Drake track was on a commercial) EDIT2: Ha! Only Yelich post I could find:

I really thought Jacob Turner would harvest his potential and turn it around after inconsistency/injuries. Nathan Eovaldi did it instead. Turner is 27 on opening day, so I guess there's still time.

Just an outstanding career. The 2010 Red Sox season was so weird and frustrating and injury-filled, and Beltre really provided what seemed like a huge portion of the enjoyment.

Ryan M. Spaeder Verified account @theaceofspaeder
Complete list of players with at least 2,000 hits, 300 home runs, and 200 defensive runs saved:
Adrian Beltre
That is it. And he eclipses those totals by 1,166 hits, 177 home runs, and 37.7 defensive runs saved.

And he eclipses those totals by 1,166 hits, 177 home runs, and 37.7 defensive runs saved. That's extremely impressive, though Defensive Runs Saved only goes back to 2003. Indeed, Beltre is the only player with 200 defensive runs saved. It's kind of like saying that Barry Bonds is the only player with 760 home runs and 70 triples. It's kind of a weird way for Spaeder to make the (probably correct) argument that Beltre is the best defensive player of the 21st century on top of being an easy-choice Hall of Famer offensively.

Beltre passing Pujols in career WAR now depends on the continued accumulation of negative WAR by Pujols, and/or tweaks to the WAR formula(s) in Beltre's favor. Pujols was leading by close to 50 WAR at one point.

Even more impressive to me since I'm a Brooks fan: Beyond the Box Score Verified account @btbscore Brooks was great, had a 104 wRC+ and 80 fWAR over 22 years. Beltre had a 115 wRC+ and 84 fWAR over 20, so I'm giving slight edge to him here. . . . Jayson Stark Verified account @jaysonst Here's every player in history with at least 3,166 hits, 477 HR, .819 OPS & 5 Gold Gloves: Willie Mays Adrian Beltre That's all, folks! . . . JJ Cooper Verified account @jjcoop36 With Beltre's retirement, Bartolo Colon is the last active player left who played in the majors in the 20th century. . . . joon Verified account Joon Leeadrian beltre represented everything right about baseball. he treated everyone with respect, had fun on the field and was one of the best players of his generation. he played baseball like he was still a kid, and that’s what the sport needs now more than ever.
