Tommy Layne signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals with an invite to spring training. Spent time with the Red Sox from 14-16.

Mets outrighted Jamie Callahan and he became a free agent. He's out for the year after his shoulder surgery, right? Wouldn't be crazy for a team with a 40 man spot to give him a major league deal, since he can go straight to the 60-day and won't burn an option.

We’re they that desperate for a 40 man spot?

They actually didn't add anyone at the deadline.

I say that only slightly sarcastically.

I always liked Callahan. He’s a no-doubt major league reliever when he gets healthy again.

According to pitching ninjas twitter Taylor Grover is topping out at 102 on the Indy scene Sheesh where was that a couple years ago We never got around to updating his profile but I think he was mid-90s, T97 or 98 around the time he got cut. Maybe he did Driveline or something similar and added a couple ticks.

Didn't Ian or Chaz really like him? I have this distinct memory of someone being a believer.
Grover is also the most underrated Muppet.

I don't know that anyone "liked him", but he was worth a quick mention given the velo. And back in the early days of Facebook, when they first introduced "Groups," I was a member of a group named "Grover is a stone cold pimp and Elmo is a crimson imposter." Yes, Facebook has always been weird.

Note: Don't take it personal, was too obvious to resist.

One radar reading said 100 and thought it had to be a mistake. Maybe it wasn't. I didn't know what didn't make him a prospect. Did Ian or anyone else ever see him when he pitched for Boston?

Former draft pick Jeff Driskel now starting QB for the Cincinnati Bengals. He probably made the right choice.

I'm sure there are a lot of peeps that remember this: If my back is feeling good that day, I have alternated between this, the Eck high leg kick, and less stressful motions while playing wiffeball with students. It's a game, and a history lesson.

The first time I saw film of him my thought was "holy stuff, that's me". My various coaches weren't enamored but couldn't argue with the results. Sean Coyle was somewhat similar but he altered his stance from year to year, likely at the insistence of the coaching.

No more confusion:
Chris Cotillo Verified account @chriscotillo Red Sox losing a minor-league free agent: LHP Josh D. Smith is headed to Cleveland on a minor-league deal. Smith has been in Sox' organization for last two years; had 3.01 ERA in 98.2 innings for Pawtucket last year.
