Jose Alvarez was traded from the ex-Sox prospect-heavy Angels bullpen to the Phillies.

Napoli was a huge part of the 2013 World Series team. Sad to see him go.

I was thinking that World Series run in 2013 was all about that series against Detroit. We took it from Detroit. They had a good team. A little move finally made by Farrell was inserting Xander for Drew who was killing us providing no offense. That home rub and Ortiz’s also were big moments. Lester was huge.

Justin Masterson is a relatively young man to be settling for the missionary position.

Maybe my favorite single game ever. And, amazingly, Jeff Mathis has outlasted Mike Napoli.

Assuming this is true, I believe this leaves Mauricio Dubon and Nick Longhi as the only Red Sox 2013 draft picks on a 40-man roster.

Craig's ISO got off the ground for the first time in like 5 years this year. His ship has probably sailed, but it would be a cool comeback story and regardless, Craig has really grinded and showed perseverance through what I'm sure has been a very frustrating time of his life.

This could easily go in several other threads, such as ones on Dombrowski or bullpens.
BA just identified 62 minor league pitchers who threw 100 this year. This is down from 71 and 81 the previous two years, suggesting that we've reached the end of the era of continual FB velo rises.
We had none of the 62.
But we developed 5.
Frankie Montas: traded 7/30/13 with Jose Iglesias for Jake Peavy
J.B. Wendelken: ditto
Michael Kopech: traded 12/6/16 for Chris Sale
Gerson Bautista: traded 7/31/17 for Addison Reed
Ty Buttrey: traded 7/30/18 for Ian Kinsler
We had 4 guys who did it in MLB, none of whom we developed: Kelly, Eovaldi, Sale, and Kimbrel.

So just FYI, that's a (semi-croudsourced) working list that will inevitably grow. The last two years started with about 60 names when they as well.

Napoli was a huge part of the 2013 World Series team. Sad to see him go. Great guy, what an intense and fun player to root for. A big part of the heart and soul of that surprise ‘13 team.

A depressing percentage of the top guys in the farm system just before that 2011 draft boom are basically out of the game. Westmoreland, Kalish, Anderson, Middlebrooks, Ranaudo, Doubront, Britton, Pimentel, Vitek, Cecchini, Coyle, Weiland. Probably a couple more I'm forgetting.

The draft years from 2006-2013 (with the exclusion of 2011, which was arguably the best draft in Sox history), was largely forgettable. There was a few picks that they used in trades, and a few they used on the team for a few years. From the draft years of 2012, 2013, 2006-2010, there are 3 major league players left out of all those drafts that are still on the major league roster. Brandon Workman, Brian Johnson, and Christian Vazquez.

Wish Will Middlebrooks all the best in the world, but he was one of the most frustrating players I have ever seen put on a Sox uniform. He just couldn't lay off of a breaking ball (especially from a RHP) down and away. As soon as he got to two strikes, I'd go to the bathroom or something because I knew what was coming and the other team always knew what to do too. Throw some offspeed in the dirt, he'd do you the honor of chasing and taking a seat. He was hyped, but he was never major league quality outside of a hot 2012 for a few months.
If I had to rate the most dreaded Sox players I have ever seen play in a Sox uniform, I'd rate the list to be like this-
1) Julio Logo (nothing was worse than seeing this guy play baseball) 2) Jose Offerman (old name drop!!!) 3) Will Middlebrooks 4) Pablo Sandoval 5) Edward Mujica
**Note none of these players may be bad human beings, but I couldn't stand watching any one of these players play baseball for this team.

I am talking more specifically about looking back at those early 2011 rankings, when the system looked pretty decent. Seven of the first eight picks in 2012 made the majors, Johnson is decent, and Callahan and Buttrey still are interesting. Marrero's bat stalled and Light never harnessed the control, but I will absolutely defend that draft.
