Tavarez with ANOTHER hit. Should be in AAA Opposite field high off the Maine Monster double. Sloppy game so far, Dogs up 2-1 but all the runs are unearned. Heiker has lost a lot of weight since I last saw him.

Rumble Ponies SS Luis Guillorme (yes, the bat catch guy) played summer ball in HS with Longhi (and Chatham and Anderson).

Rumble Ponies SS Luis Guillorme (yes, the bat catch guy) played summer ball in HS with Longhi (and Chatham and Anderson). I didn't realize he was the bat catch guy. He made two bad throws with Devers. His throw to first was first ruled a 2 base error then changed to single, error then his throw to third was ruled a missed catch but it didn't arrive where it should have.

I'm pretty high on Cosart but his control has a loooong way to go

I know he's a catcher but, DePew is a bit of a lard bucket.

I'm pretty high on Cosart but his control has a loooong way to go It's weird watching him (today). He seems to either hit the catcher's target or be way off (mostly high and to the arm side), not much in between the extremes.

Yeah I was following along on the radio and he seemed to be going fine and then two walks on eight pitches all of a sudden. I wonder if it's a mental thing because he went right back to work after Walker came out to talk to him.

When he's on, he's close to unhitable. Lots of swing and miss or weak contact.

Tough loss in extras. Taveras had a chance for back to back walkoff hits in overtime but got a bad call for strike three.

I'm pretty high on Cosart but his control has a loooong way to go It's weird watching him (today). He seems to either hit the catcher's target or be way off (mostly high and to the arm side), not much in between the extremes. I don't like Cosart's mechanics, but if it works for him, then fine. I think the issue is two fold. 1) AA hitters don't need to commit early on FBs, therefore, they will take close pitches. Cosart and many young power arms are use to hitters swinging at bad pitches because they are late on the FB and must commit early. 2) As a young pitcher, he's use to things working out and not making adjustments during the inning. He'll have to think more about what's going on with each hitter. If you are throwing all high (8 in a row), change your release point, bend further, shorten up, etc... but don't continue to do the same thing and expect different results.
Once he gets comfortable in AA, he will make the changes. That's part of development.

Darwinzon Hernandez with a pretty nice start. 15 K/9 IP so far. Curious if his FB has ticked up...nice start of the year for a potential pop-up guy at an age-appropriate level. Good to see his control seems to have improved a bit from last year, although the sample's small. Another potential back-end guy with maybe a little more upside.

The 15 strikeouts in nine innings is cool, but I'm not surprised that Hernandez can punch out Low A hitters. The three walks in nine innings isn't enough to draw any real conclusions from but it's much more important.

Sitting 93 is pretty good for a lefty, and it sounds like the curve has plus potential. Be good to see him develop the CH a bit and improve his control/command. Intriguing profile though.
