Eddy had good concentration today. Not always the case. Really need to see that with Price uncertain.

31 pitches in first 3 innings and 70+ over last 3..two different games. But he had outstanding deception with the change. His velocity today was as good as it has been too. If he just had a bit more command.....

I was going to ask why they left Barnes in the game! Now I know why

Here we go! That pitch hit Machado's bat.

Barnes' command is so bad that when he"s asked to bean a batter he gets his bat lol

The three inside pitches at the knees by ERod were cool. Behind the head by Barnes, not so cool.

I hate playing bean-ball with other teams, but hopefully Machado learns the lesson that if you play dirty, you don't have a choice in how a team with try and get even with you. Sure, he says his slide didn't mean to hurt Petey, but it did. Barnes, I'm sure, wasn't aiming for Machado's head, but that's where it ended up. Either way, Machado was the one that started all the nonsense.

Anyone recall the last Sox player to get 5 hits in a nine inning game?

Really can't keep Kimbrel out of the game up 5 in the 9th? The only way to fail that is let Abad pitch to a bunch of right handed batters.

If you can't tell by the lack of complaining, the Sox did officially win the baseball game they played today.

Great win for our nine today. All things equal one win in the series was good enough for me at this point in the season. On to bigger and better things.

Its a warning and a foul ball! It did get him on the helmet before it hit his bat did it not? (honest question, that's how I saw it)

I just don't see how you toss Barnes there. If he was trying to hit him he wasn't just 2 feet high, the pitch was behind him also. He clearly had no control over it. Was there a warning before that?

This is a pretty clear illustration of how dumb the unwritten rules on retaliation are.

This is a pretty clear illustration of how dumb the unwritten rules on retaliation are. Agreed, and this seems even outside of the usual unwritten rules "etiquette." Throwing at someone's head two days later for a hard slide wouldn't have flown in the romanticized tough-guy era, either.

Check where Vazquez sets up. So the defense of Barnes is that he just happened to miss. By five feet. Five feet in the direction of the player's head whose hard slide took out Pedroia two days earlier. Total coincidence.
I figure he'll get eight games initially, down to six on appeal. Hopefully they can drag the appeal out long enough that Thornburg is back.

He likely wanted to do the old high and tight but it got away from him. I mean there is no debate on whether the pitch got away from him unless you think he tried to get a strike by hitting his bat. I think it was a brush back warning pitch that got away.
