I don't see where you see "sinister."
Unless you think I mean Machado meant to hurt him? Which I didn't. IMO- as I said- he meant to break up the play and got over-anxious just the way someone would if they threw a punch- not meaning to - and wish they could take it back.
And/or unless my criticism of Torre? I don't think having bias is "all the time" sinister. He doesn't have to dislike or hate the Red Sox to have even a smidgen of bias. And if he even has a smidgen of bias it can affect a decision. So for example when I hear he is going to possibly go after Sale yet not go after Bundy and the reasons he gives regarding Pedroia/Bundy/Sale imo are totally absurd, what am I supposed to think? Just the fact he says he is not going to accept Pedroia's supposed "one-of-a-kind" skill but has no problem doing so with Sale isn't neccessarily sinister. It's just wrong.
Someone on this thread or another mentioned a litmus test suggesting the SOx fans would say it was okay if Pedroia made the slide. Well for me I don't understand/agree with what I feel are Torre's wrong takes on this whole situation - I feel if he had the same test and it was a Yankee- it would probably be different. But that isn't necessarily sinister. I don't think it out of the realm that he would trust the Yankees more. For example, I don't know his relationship with Buck but it wouldn't surprise me that he might be more friendly/ have more trust with Buck than Farrell even before this incident. H'es human. He has relationships. Anyhow, when MLB had their meeting telling both teams to knock it off, imo they also told the coaches the same. Yet what did we hear in the post game two days ago? Buck keeps needling the Red Sox. I'm not so sure a non-Yankee in the front office would allow Buck to keep mouthing off like he continually does. I would think MLB in telling teams to knock it off wouldn't want to see/read a war of words. Yet Buck is allowed to keep needling the Red Sox. I sort of like it. But if you are serious about stopping this if you are in the front office, wouldn't you tell Buck to shut up? Yet they haven't apparently. Why not?
Again it's not like my opinion is out if left field. If you watch the postgames you could listen to Lyons and TC. Lyons is literally laughing at Buck's needling. So it just brings me back to - why is Torre allowing this? Then all the other questions come back. Why did he allow the dirty slide and do nothing? And from there all the other points I've made. I think Torre is in the wrong here - as well as Buck and the O's.
At this point I think there are semantic gymnastics going on for their own sake.
A number of people here have ascribed to Machado an intent to injure Pedroia or a callous indifference to his safety. I would describe that as sinister.
With regard to Torre's possible bias whether your smidgen or more, I would define that as jaundiced. Both cases are to me, cynical.
Time to move on.
To suggest any human being has no bias to me I would define that as fantasy land view.
Pats vs Giants SUper Bowl-- from what I heard on the radio during Mike Francesca show - there was the discussion of if Wesley Walker should have made the catch. Walker said he should but the majority of the receivers said it was a tough catch and it was 50-50 whether it should have been caught. While the more of the QB's said Walker should have caught it. That is bias on each side. There is nothing sinister.
I'm a big hoop fan. Many power players that are pros prefer the physical style of play and appreciate the physical player more than the small quick pg. And vice-versa. Therefore they are more apt to hype a player that fits how they play. That is bias. That is not sinister.
To suggest anyone doesn't have some sort fo bias in some manner and if they did it is sinister - imo it is just so wrong.
