What if there was baseball and a hockey game broke out? Aceves comes storming in from the lower right about 2:30 in. He gets jumped and then takes a few shots to the head. That's probably the safest place to hit him since there's little chance you'll do any damage...

Aceves was certainly not a peacemaker but he was being held by a couple of guys while taking hits from all sides.
Apparently Cruz is a former Red Sox farmhand from about ten years ago...he will be a marked man for a while

well apparently there are no suspensions coming from this. Not sure how that's possible but nothing surprises me from the MLB anymore

To be fair Walker's team was holding Acceves while several members of team Canada punched him in the face. I would love to see the look in Larry Walker's eyes if he was being held and and punched by several guys.

6-6 Bottom 9, runners on 1st and 2nd, 1 out. Bogaerts comes up to the plate, falls behind 0-2, checks his swing on an outside slider to put the count at 1-2, then takes an outside offspeed offering to right center for a (almost walk-off) single. Thing of beauty right there.

His plate discipline is questionable but his intelligence and off field power are evident.

I'm certainly no fan of Aceves (as anyone who's read my opinion on him still being on the team can tell you), but I think it's pretty hard to say he did a lot wrong there.

Xander 2/3, 2B, BB, K in Netherland's 10-6 loss to Japan (Netherlands is not eliminated, as they had already clinched a berth in the semis).

His plate discipline is questionable but his intelligence and off field power are evident. Not to be a smart ass, but..... What exactly is "off field power" ..... It sounds like something that comes with great responsibility.

I saw most of the Netherlands game last night, and the game before that. I missed Xander's double but he has looked terrible in most of his other AB. His hits have been lucky and his plate discipline was terrible. He is clearly anxious to swing. Young guy in a big spot, wanting to contribute to team success badly. I hope they give him the entire year in the minors because he appears to need it. He's got Josh Reddick level anxiousness, maybe worse. Or at least he has so far in the WBC.

I must be watching another guy named Xander.

I would have no problem if Xander hit 30 home runs and won a gold glove in his first full major league season.

The adjustments that Xander has made to me are impressive. This experience has been wonderful for a kid that has turned 20 and has 1) never played in front of such a huge hostile crowd; 2) had to play a different position, and 3) showed, other than a couple of at-bats, the ability to take pitches and even place a perfect bunt down the 1st base line when asked to. The WBC has pushed his ETA by several months.

At least 2 of Xander's hits were primarily luck. One was a topper to SS which to his credit he legged out, showing more speed than I thought he had. He was down 2 strikes on another AB where he got the tip of the bat on it and it dropped into RF. One other AB which ended up a hit appeared to be mainly luck to me, if I remember correctly. These games were on at like 4 in the morning so I didn't watch intently. He was behind the count in virtually every AB I saw, even striking out swinging at 3 bad pitches in a row in one. As noted I did miss his one double. He did appear decent in the field but did not seem to be making much strong contact at all to me. It was only a few games. If he were playing well would they have benched him? If his replacement didn't get hurt is it even likely that he would have been given a chance again? He was 1 for 11 or so at one point.
Not hating on Xander here ok, but the BWC did not enhance his profile in the minds of most observers I would think.

So now that Profar is on the Kingdom of Netherlands's roster now, will Xander get playingtime?

So now that Profar is on the Kingdom of Netherlands's roster now, will Xander get playingtime? My guess is that they use him as a pinch hitter. They've already said that Schoop is going to move to third, and Bogaerts to the bench.

So the spending-est team owners in the history of everything are going to open the season with Luis Cruz, Dee Gordon and Mark Ellis at third/short/second? Sweet. They may have taken their mission to become Yankees West a bit too literally.
