According to Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago, the Red Sox have been scouting White Sox starting pitcher Jose Quintana “and other White Sox player” recently. The Nationals and Red Sox have had some of their top talent evaluators watching Quintana and other White Sox players recently. The Red Sox figure to be evaluating Frazier too, as they’re used five players at third base this season. Despite a subpar season, Frazier could provide stability for a team. www.trifectanetworksports.com/boston-red-sox-rumor-team-reportedly-scouting-jose-quintana/

I would presume that this is the backup scenario in case Price doesn't make it back. More due diligence at this point than anything.

Probably but I think it underscores an organizational weakness at developing starting caliber pitching over the years. Of course the article links them to Frazier as well.

Scouting Jose Quintana isn't a sign of weakness at any level. It links the Nats to him too, and they've done well developing starting pitching.

If you read the original article, it's pretty much baseless. He doesn't name sources (or even say there is a source) confirming who was being scouted. He just says scouts were there and then filled in the blanks about why they were there.
Trading for Quintana is a really stupid idea. They should look for a back end starter if anyone. And again, no big trades are ever made before July.

How is acquiring Quintana going to help the anemic Red Sox offense? If Price doesn't make it back this year the Red Sox would be better served just punting rather emptying the remaining top prospects that would be required to get Quintana, including Devers, Groome, Travis as well as possibly Rodriquez off the major league roster.

Quintana has not been anything special this year. I can not see gutting the last remaining pieces of talent in our system, for Quintana,
