Another rough start for Trey Ball. If this keeps up, a conversion to the bullpen seems like a good idea before year's end. There have been some improvements in his peripherals but he's at a point (Rule 5 eligible), where I think you have to see if the stuff plays up in shorter stints. There's no point in trying him in the OF at this point in my opinion. Its not like he was such a good OF prospect that his bat could afford 3+ years of missed development.

4 Home Runs allowed by Ball today, that's hard to see in a box score.

Mata has one hell of a curveball. He's been using it confidently and has frozen two batters already.

Mata has one hell of a curveball. He's been using it confidently and has frozen two batters already. 3K's in 3 innings. No free passes. Gave up a run in the 2nd on a pair of 2B's ADD: Now 5 in the books. Pretty sure Mata is done for the night. 3H, 1BB, 4K's 1ER.

I believe "mata" is one of the verb forms of "to kill" in Spanish. Is it too early to call him... "the Killer?"

6 innings 1 earned run on 4 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts for Mata. I'm assuming that's gonna be his night as he's at 81 pitches and labored a bit in the 6th. He looked really really good for being so young for his league. Can't wait to watch his next start.

I was wrong. He went 6, as others have indicated. Just outstanding for an 18-year old in in the SAL. Really hoping he can keep this up.

Cedrola just cleared the wall in left field for a three run home run. 3-4 on the night and his second home run of the season, and he's now batting .300. He routinely is getting good hard contact on everything he hits despite being a small player.

Ockimey with another terrific day, including no Ks. God, I hope he's the Sox answer to Judge. If he and Chavis become legit MLB hitters, who can put up viable WRC+s at their positions (1b/DH/OF), it would go a very long way to easing the salary crunch in 2-3 years. Mata's start was very encouraging, too...great results on good economy for an 18-y/o in low A.

Unfortunately no I didn't hear what his velocity was like today.

"El Matador" (The killer in Spanish) sounds like a good nick to me. Not to belabor the point, but the word for tree in Spanish is "arbol" thus "arborway or arboretum. Mata means "bush". Matar means "to kill". Mata is third person as in "el mata el enemigo", he kills the enemy. Here's hoping Bryan continues to matar the opposition.

Love that we have people telling Norberto (pedroelgrande) what words mean in Spanish. Outstanding.
Anyway, any nickname that makes me think of Tito Santana is alright in my book. Motion to make El Matador official.
I particularly look forward to his first AAA start against Durham.

It could be Italian, as in "What's a Mata you?"
