Verlander has a groin injury, but Detroit is hopeful that he can start on Saturday. If not, Daniel Norris could slide up a day, or Drew VerHagen could get the spot start.

Wow, Zimmermann is having a season. Nice contract. He was the most predictably "not meant for this league" pitcher ever.

It feels weird that I'm going into this series feeling like the Sox have just been swept in the past 3 series but in fact they played .500 ball.

So in his last 21 games, in 97 PA, Mookie's hitting .205/.278/.318, following that 5 HR in 8 games stretch.
By no means saying they should get away from him, but I wonder if either giving him a couple days or shuffling the lineup such that he moves down for a few days is appropriate to try to get him going, particularly with Pedroia getting activated tonight.

BABIP of .219 in that period. I really wish Statcast data was available to see average exit velocities and more, but I seem to remember a lot of hard hit balls finding gloves. No problem with switching up the lineup though.

In that time frame (May 17 to Jun 8) Betts has been very unlucky. 4th worst xBA-BA differential, 6th worst xwOBA-wOBA differential. As you can see here he has only 2 hits on 4 barreled balls and 1 hit on 7 hard contacts. 32 of his 75 batted balls have been >95 MPH, 42%, which is much better than the 32% league average. His Contact% on swings is a tick down at 83.1%... 84.4% on the year... 86.8% career.

I never like sitting out young players who got 3+ years of service for a little slump. Rookies/Vets fine, just not Betts.

I feel like Betts defense, and overall contact ability against any velocity/pitcher keeps him in the lineup unless Farrell makes the veteran manager move to give him a blow
Please John, dont do it.

They have won 11 of 18 too. Yeah, that's what I mean. The last 2 games were such downers that it's easy to forget the world is not ending.

Opposing starters are limiting this team to 2.5/run a game from that article, with 0 runs 13 times.
I'm ready for a lineup shakeup at this point. Betts should be hitting behind Benni, Pedroia, Xander to see if gets something to hit.

I agree, and for the most part I am way better than I used to be. It is kind of hard wired into my brain though. The Sox are the only sports team I give a hoot for. It will be like that till the day I die, warts and all. On a side note, I think I am falling victim to expectations. I honestly love the way this team is set up (no team is perfect), but the games still have to be won.

I'm way better about the Red Sox losing unless it's the Yankees and then I turn into a raving irrational lunatic.
I never saw the transactions that go along with Pedroia and Johnson. Workman and ?
