The Sox are having a good well rounded draft so far. Love the fact that this kid sounds like he'll stick in CF too because of his speed.

Chris is retweeting a bunch of analysis about the second round pick. I like it.

Stinks that the Rays get what should of been the guy chosen with the number 1 pick. They have been fortunate when picking in the top 10 of their drafts. Don't know about that man. Remember: They left Buster Posey and picked Tim Beckam instead for our pleasure

They have been quietly been building a good farm system since they signed Vladimir Gurerro's son.

Sounds like a left handed hitting Margot.

Sounds like a left handed hitting Margot. ellsbury upside with better arm (which isn't really saying much as ells has a noodle)...

One elite pitch that he can't control. His fastball control and command are both very good. That's what the mlb network guy said after the pick, while he was trashing the pick. Spent most of last year using only his fastball that he can't control at times. Needs to fix his mechanics and get back to what he was in 2015.

A guy I really wished the Sox to pick in day 2 was Daulton Varsho the speedy catcher out of the University of Winsconsin-Milwaukee but of course he got picked by Sadwaye-Hazen at 68

These two picks shouldn't be hard signs. I expect both to sign at slot value.

Had the Sox cap ready too. (My guess is they had a few, but still, not a bad sign that the Sox cap was one of them. He had every team lined up lol.

Great picks on day one. I would love to see Boston select Nick Allen in the third round.

Interesting on the difference of opinions. On the broadcast and from what I've read it sounds like Houcke is a bullpen guy waiting to happen while the Red Sox organization thinks he can develop into a starter.
I was a little concerned by the projection that Brannen by MLB.com tops out at .270 - and maybe I'm reading way too much into that as I'd hope to hear that he'd be a .270 - .300 type of hitter. I would hope with his speed, he'd have a hit tool that would allow him to hit better than that. I didn't understand that power hitting lefty comment when all other reports say there's potential for some pop, but that power wouldn't be a big part of his game.
It sounds like he's either a 2nd division regular if he's a .250 - .260 hitter or if he doesn't hit enough, a fourth outfielder?
I think the Red Sox feel he's the guy who will eventually take over for JBJ, giving them great speed and defense in CF with a chance to hit with some pop.

My guess is that Allen would be a very tough sign at this point. He's going to USC and could conceivably end up a Top-5 pick in 2020.
I'm intrigued by Blaine Knight. Draft-eligible sophomore, very skinny, coming off a down sophomore year after being outstanding as a freshman. The slider/cutter flashes plus, and all four of his pitches can be good but he's never put everything together at once. The upside there is a plus-fastball/plus-cutter with two more legit secondaries and starter durability, but if he can't add the strength or find some consistency there's a huge risk he flames out in Double-A. I wonder what it would take to sign him, though - very possible that he could go back to Arkansas for his junior year and get back in or near the first round, so I'd have to think they'd have to be somewhere in the $850K range, at least?

Happy with the Brannen pick, Houck I can live with...like sinkerballers who can miss bats and if he can develop the slider/changeup and maybe even rediscover some of that lost FB velocity (although they say its still a plus pitch with the sink). A couple of guys I would have preferred over Houck but good with the haul from day one.
Pittsburgh grabbed my favorite two players in their respective draft ranges with Shane Baz and Steven Jennings. Liked Baz from the start of this process when he was ranking in the 40's and Steve Jennings just seems to have that great mix of athleticism, projection remaining and a good chance to have three or possibly four above avg to plus pitches...actually both those kids should have a real nice mix of pitches.

I can't complain about either pick. I'd really like Tyler Johnson in round 3. I think he has a chance to start and has more upside than a typical college arm bc he didn't pitch much early in his career. He was team USAs closer last summer and have seen some South Carolina reporters have the Sox linked to him.
Also agree that Allen either goes to school or has a deal cut with someone with pool savings at the top of the draft.

Fastest runner in the system most likely already. Nick Hamilton is probably a true 80 runner, so he might be faster. But a 6.18 60, if that is definitely what he ran, is 80 speed.
