Shawn McFarland @mcfarland_Shawn 4m4 minutes ago More Awesome get for the #RedSox. Zach Schellenger thrived on the Cape last summer for @harwichmariners. All-Star, 1.32 ERA, 32 K in 20.1 IP.

You mean the dude who was drafted 8th overall as a junior and then 1st over as a senior and got a $6.35 million bonus? Yeah I worded that poorly. I mean more that teams learned their lesson from him. But teams don't learn, so maybe not. I think it works better if Appel fell apart before that 2nd draft instead of after.

Agree with poster above.. Loving this draft with all the power arms drafted early on, even if 1-2 are developed as relievers. This seems to me the best draft in recent years talent wise, other than 2011 and 2014.

I'm already wondering how they can sign them all, but I guess they know more than me. They really need $10K seniors for the rest of the day.

Did the Indians bullpen influence teams' strategies?
Those 3rd-6th round picks are tough, there's a big gap in slot vs what the players presumably want. And early picks know that teams have a lot of incentive to sign them at slot because they can spend the extra 10% (like with Brian Johnson) vs not at all if they don't want to sign cheap.

We'll be going under-slot very soon. I expect most picks to sign at slot. We need to find the money to sign Scherff.

So Scherff is over. Netzer is under. Everyone else is basically around slot, maybe we could knock off about 100,000 from Houck.
Anyone know how much it would take to sign Scherff? I know Tanner Burns is still out there. One of my friends went to a neighboring high school in Alabama and said he was a real nice kid. I guess if they take him it would be nothing but seniors the rest of the way, but the Sox have had success with senior relievers.

We're going to have a hell of a bullpen a few years from now.

I love the power arms we've drafted so far, but when are the Red Sox going to draft a power bat? Don't the Red Sox rank near dead last in home runs? There's gotta be a young player out there with plus power we can draft. Sox really need need a future cleanup hitter in my opinion, a big power guy who puts the fear into opposing pitchers.

Tyler Esplin, OF, IMG Academy, Bradenton, Fla. #96 on BA's Florida list.

Tyler Esplin, courtesy of PG
2016 National Showcase Jun 15, 2016 PG Grade: 9 Tyler Esplin is a 2017 OF/RHP with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Lake Bluff, IL who attends IMG Academy. Big and strong athletic build. Left handed hitter, upright stance, starts very open and works to straight, swing is pretty short but has lots of strength at contact, can pull the ball with power when on time. 6.91 runner, moves well for his size in the outfield, long and full arm action with good raw arm strength and carry to his throws. Also pitched, works downhill from a high 3/4's arm slot, fastball topped out at 85 mph, has been up to 88 mph in the past, soft slider gets off the barrel, worked down in the zone and was effective. Good student.

We're reportedly tied to 3 bats in the top 20 in the International draft. Obviously they are 16 year olds but they could catch up to or be right behind this H.S class if all breaks
