As the impending promotions of Rafael Devers and Michael Chavis are quite exciting to many of us, I wanted to create a poll for each to determine when we think they will promoted. (if a moderator would like to merge this with the individual topic thread, I would certainly not be against that)
I listed the dates which I believe make the most sense, but if you think another date should be added, please list the date and 'why' in the responses and I'll add it.

I hope he plays his first game on September 4th! He would be the first player named Rafael to ever play for the Red Sox, according to B-Ref, and he would do it on my birthday. It would be a hell of a birthday for me.

He will get to Boston in August, a week or two after the trade deadline. I think he (should) gets promoted to AAA any day now.

Sandoval hits DL after being replaced by a catcher defensively (not exactly, but close enough). I think they're finally cutting bait with him. Devers being called up for the Anaheim homestand is seeming a bit more likely. (especially if you assume Pedroia is healthy by then and they can send Travis or Marrero back down)

So for what it's worth, the Red Sox have historically called up prospects on the road. Benintendi and Moncada both made their debuts on the road, for example. So I don't think there's any significance to the start of a homestand or anything like that.

I picked the original dates above as they all seemed sensible to make the call-up logistically easier (beginning of a series, off-day before). But this may have little or no bearing on the actual decision timing.
Here are the actual promotion dates, along with home/road, of the top position prospects of the past half decade or so, in case anyone else is interested: Moncada, Road, Sep 2nd Benintendi, Road, Aug 2nd Swihart, Home, May 2nd Betts, Road, June 28th Bradley, Road, April 2nd Bogaerts, Road, Aug 19th Iglesias, Home, May 8th Middlebrooks, Home, May 2nd
It's interesting that July is the only month not represented above. May be an indication that the front office would rather promote earlier, to know for sure what they have, or later assuming they already know what they have.

JF confirming what Dombrowski said 2 weeks ago and I totally agree with that.

I would hope he'd come up when rosters expand and no sooner. There should be no immediate rush if this team plays to its capability.

I'm the opposite, if he struggles he'll still be better than any third base option on the roster, especially if you factor in defense.
I also would take DD & Farrell's comments with a big grain of salt. If they said the opposite someone (Pablo, likely, or Rutledge) would have to be gone. Pablo's DL buys them time. If Hanley goes on the DL for any length of time right now, I'd guess Devers would get a phone call.

By the end of the month I think the sox move devers up to AAA and chavis up to AA. Give them both a month or so and see how they handle things. Holt going to be ready to play anytime soon? I suppose you could start rutlidge at 3rd and bring in marreo for defense at the end of the game.

One concern: Devers' IFFB% in AA is higher than everyone in the majors' outside of Byron Buxton.
