Former 1st round DD draft pick Jonathan Crawford's brother, from Florida, now with the Reds (I think) www.naplesnews.com/story/sports/college/fgcu/2017/05/31/college-baseball-fgcu-junior-ace-kutter-crawford-country-strong/357917001/"Definitely couldn't have predicted this to happen," Crawford said. "I wanted to come in to compete and earn a starting-role job, which I knew I had a chance to. But if you had told me I'd be sailing along with a sub-2.00 ERA, I would've said there's no way. "I think this all goes to being in the right culture, working hard and being pushed every day. Being on a team that can hit, score runs and wants to win and plays defense and competes. That just helps everything." Touches 94, 2 years after pitching at 82-85

I love the strategy so far this year. Seems like a bunch of HS and College players that we have a very good chance of signing. We needed a big influx of talent. The hard to sign guys can wait till later.

Every draft makes that itch worse for these guys to sign and some to get assigned to Ft Myers to get down and see some right away on our 1st trip of the summer..

You know, it would be kind of nice to get a top 200 player at some point in draft day 3. I mean we aren't getting Burns or Beck or anything, but you'd have to think at least one of them is signable. Otherwise day 3 might be a total waste. Even if we signed every single pick.

After what they've already drafted? I think this an unreasonable draft expectation.
And just because a player isn't i the BA Top 200, doesn't mean he has no upside. Also, Day 3 is where teams often get a lot of there important org guys.

That's fine and well, but you'd think that they would have taken a shot sometime between rounds 11-24. Either that or picks 1-6 were so amazing that they used all of their money.

24th rounder Charlie Madden - C- Mercer blurb from MLB:
Mercer's four-year catcher was a 25th-round pick of the White Sox last year, but he returned to school to get his degree. A right-handed hitter with power, Madden had his best year offensively as a senior, blasting 17 home runs. But his real value is behind the plate. Madden has size, athleticism and good catch-and-throw skills.
They must love/trust their GA scout, huh?

So now we have it, almost.
The Sox selected Donny Diaz in Round 23. They are supposed to be signing Danny Diaz in the July 2 International pool. Probably as close we're going to get to Alejandro Basabe and Alejandro Basabe. I'm sure the Sox were targeting this for exactly this reason.
