Nice velo and high fastballs from Maddox. Couldn't get a whiff though. Hopefully he's the anti-Ben Taylor. His secondaries look decent. Welp time to trade Hembree.

Even if Porcello had pitched exceptionally well RS still losing this one and that's hard to accept. It was great to get 2 runs last night.

Every game, inning is sudden death watching this club. forum.soxprospects.com/user/202/recentThe Red Sox are one game out of first place and have the third best record in the American League. Judging by your posting history, I'd guess they were something like 29-42. So I get that people post more when the team is losing - a decision that is bad or goes wrong is going to generate more discussion than one that doesn't, and so it goes. But can you dial back the melodrama? They're on pace to go 91-71. If that feels like sudden death maybe you need a different sport.

I hope Rick Porcello finds a way to get his act together.
If the Red Sox can get an average 3b performance, have Porcello and Price get their command back, get Hanley healthy, get a useful and healthy Carson Smith back, and get E-Rod back and pitching the way he did before the injury, the Red Sox could lay waste to just about the rest of the league.
The Red Sox have seemingly played uninspiring baseball with a lots of stops and starts.
But what's truly startling, glancing at the standings a few days earlier, is how amazingly bad most of the other teams in baseball have been!
When I looked, out of the 30 teams, only 12 had winning records and 3 of those teams were barely above .500. That's 60% of all baseball with losing records and 3 more barely above .500.
Lots of mediocrity. The kind of year you can really, really fatten up your record, just as Houston has already done, just as the top NL West teams have already done - they've already made it apparent that the NL Wild Cards are most likely coming from the NL West as all three teams, LA, Arizona, and Colorado are playing .600 ball, while teams like Washington and Houston can pretty much trot the rest of the year out while preparing for the playoffs.
If the Red Sox can get their act together and stay healthy they could find themselves approaching 100 wins because the rest of the teams are so mediocre to bad. The 2017 Red Sox aren't as good as the 2016 Red Sox, but they could top 93 wins if they can get Porcello and Price on track and get reliable offense and defense out of 3b the remainder of the year.
If they don't they, as an 87 to 90 win team, will likely look up at the Yankees and await for some barely above .500 team to host at Fenway for the Wild Card game with plenty of time to line up Chris Sale for the start.

We had our Red Sox fan friends over last night and ended up watching last year's Super Bowl again. I still don't get how they came back from 28-3 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. It was way better than the Red Sox game.

It was way better than the Red Sox game. It helped that the Falcons coach was oblivious to the fact that a field goal with about 3 minutes to go would have sealed the deal. And yeah, it was way, way better than the Red Sox game. I must have watched and rewatched those final 20 minutes of the super bowl about a dozen times by now. I still can't believe they won that game.

I am not going to make the same mistake as BOBrother and point out that a win tonight would get the boys in first place. Those kind of posts make for bad karma.

Price getting two strikes on hitters consistently but not putting them away. Frustrating to say the least. But he's fighting through it. Hopefully things start to click for him.

Watching this offense is so freaking hard. They really need someone to step up and be a leader.
Price is not as sharp as he was last year. But still throwing pretty good.
