. I give the guy credit, he is trying and the effort is important. He is really getting his first extended experience with the major league level coaching. He has always been highly regarded and promising...thinking that he will improve with the bat. hope your right. He is getting old by prospect status, but you don't ever know.

From the very first replay, seemed Xander never even touched second, missing it w/ his feet, and didn't make an attempt w his base-side (lest) hand, no? That is not the rule. He simply has to be in position to touch the base and begin the slide in front of the base. Everyone remembers Machado's slide into Pedroia. Someone explain the difference in the slides other than Pedroia's injury from it and the fact that Pedroia was not looking at the runner unlike Simmons?

Man, it would be great if Leon started hitting like he did last year for a month.

Someone explain the difference in the slides other than Pedroia's injury from it and the fact that Pedroia was not looking at the runner unlike Simmons? www.si.com/mlb/2016/04/19/slide-rule-chase-utley-memoFor example, the memorandum explained one particular hard slide was legal (termed “a bona fide slide”) because the runner: • Began his slide prior to reaching the base. • Was able and attempted to reach base with his hand. • Appeared to be able to remain on the base. • Was within reach of base without changing his pathway. The memorandum also detailed examples of illegal slides. Some of those violations occurred because the runner: • Was not able to remain on the base. • Did not attempt to reach the base with his hand or foot.• Initiated illegal contact with the fielder by throwing his arm/upper body and contacting the fielder above the knee. • Did not begin his slide before the base. • Failed to attempt to remain on base after completion of the slide. • Was not within reach of the base without changing his pathway. • Changed his pathway in an attempt to contact the fielder rather than reach base safely.

Damn Porcello absolutely imploding against the bottom of the Angels order, that's a shame.

I hope noone gets mad at this inning. He was up 6 runs on a decent pitch count, something to build on for the guy. Let go Heath.

Well Kimbrel hasn't pitched in what seems like forever now. So it was probably good to give him a save situation tonight.

And quietly, JBJ is up to .272. Hoping his power bat shows up on the homestand too.
Was looking at team stats - if things even out, some homers should be coming in bunches. MLB - Sox 27th in HR, 24th in slugging. Yet, 5th in OBP; middle of the pack in OPS.

i have gotten to old (past the 18-49 demographic) to really care about individual players success in this great organization (letters on front more important than name on back), but I will make an exception for Big Papi. No doubt he was a part of changing the culture of this team and I am thankful for that. Also, he was a helluva hitter. Jerry, this tweet is for you my man! And I have gotten too old (far beyond that demographic) to support any team without supporting its players and their contributions to the team. A team is no more human than a corporation. It's the players who ARE the team, individual players playing as individuals in common cause. My brothers and I still talk about the remarkable '46 and '47 teams, but it is the players we discuss, and as I pick the brains of my older sibs who were old enough to be at that WS, its the accomplishments and personalities of guys like Williams, Doerr, DiMaggio, Ferris, etc.that are best remembered as "that" team. I can't see my absolutely shining adult memories of the '67 WS without remembering Yaz and Lonborg ... and the revival of baseball in Boston. Yes that team would likely have left Boston without the dynamism and success of those driven players who created the buzz of a winning team. My Red Sox team is all the above plus Piersall, Malzone, Radatz, Remy, Pumpsie, Boggs, Fisk, Nomar Dewey, Lynn, Reggie and so many others that have kept me loyal to this team over the decades. I am so excited by the players of this current team: the B's, the catchers, Pedey, the kids, the success of Moreland, Sale and Kimbrel, etc. They are also part of my Red Sox tram, as are Devers and Travis all the way to the kids who were just drafted. Its the players.

Hopefully, we can both celebrate more memories with this years team.

Something jimed brought up during spring training, is how Bradley's numbers at that time compared with his last two years, how consistent they were. Here's an update: Year | Age | BA | OBP | SLG | OPS | OPS+ |
---|
2015 | 25 | .249 | .335 | .498 | .832 | 119 | 2016 | 26 | .267 | .349 | .486 | .835 | 117 | 2017 | 27 | .272 | .362 | .482 | .844 | 118 |
His batting average on balls in play over that time? .310, .312, .310! He must have a rubber stamp hidden somewhere...

Yankees lost! Time to never look back.
I bet it has been awhile since the Red Sox had 6 guys from the 40-man on the 60-day DL.

Figures, 81 and 76 mph hits. Didn't I read where the MLB average is like 86 or something. Those aren't that far off. Price does seem snake bit at this time, I agree with DD, the stuff is there.
