New year = New thread. This week MLB was conducting and International showcase in San Cristobal, DR and many US based journalist that cover international baseball were in D.R for the showcase. This includes Ben Badler(Baseball America), Jason Parks(BP) and Jesse Sanchez(MLB.COM) so information on the the 2013 class will be coming out sooner this year which is cool. Jason Parks already mentioned one of the guys to keep an eye on: The Red Sox still have money left to sign guys already eligible but those guys are harder to track and at this point I wouldn't expect any big signing. For July 2 since the Red Sox struggled last year they'll have a bigger pool but IDK if its gonna be bigger than last year or rather bigger relative to the competition but we'll see once the numbers come out.

I'd assume (and that's all it is) that we'd get more than last year. Last year everybody got the same amount so its almost like we were all .500 times. Considering we're well under the halfway mark in terms of draft position I'd think we'd have to get more.
I assume there's no carry over? As in anything that doesn't get spent this year carries over to next. By the time we all get use to this CBA it'll be time for another one.

It doesn't carry over from what I've read.

The pool allocation carries over if you can't sign the player. I remember reading about it last year when I saw how aggressive Toronto was drafting, knowing they couldn't sign everyone.

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't carry over. In the draft you get a pick compensation the following year if you don't sign a player so partially yes you get the value the following year but thats for the 1st 4-5 rounds.
This is International signings there is no draft so there is no compensation from not signing.

From doing my net search and articles in DR I've been able to find vid and info on some of the prospects that we'll be hearing about come July 2. Jason Parks from BP had a free article up where he talk more in general about his trip to D.R but provided a spread sheet of the event with good tidbits of the players in attendance. Story: www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=19417Spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnPMlx4uEmECdE1GMTRxM3JiR2pWQnFqMV9YaW4yelE#gid=0Not all the best players where at the event but perhaps who will be considered the best was. Eloy Jimenez, OF, Santo Domingo - Listed 6'4 200 LB Jason Parks: Excellent hip rotation; easy power; some contact issues; 7 figure player A D.R newspaper describe him as the best player in the island for July 2. Video: Lewin Diaz, OF, Santiago Listed 6'4 190 He wasn't at the MLB event but he attended the Under-Amour All American game and went 2/4 if I remember correctly. Video: Micker Zapata, OF, Dominican Republic 6' 3 225 Jason Parks: Best player in showcase; enormous raw; standing ovation after BP display; mature body; loose swing. I haven't been able to find video of him and it doesn't seem he's part of either the DPL or the IPL. Obispo Aybar Lara, SS, Bani Listed 6'0 165 Jason Parks: Serious Dude; juice in the bat; plus athlete; plays wild and fast; high 6/low 7 bonus player I haven't been able to find video of him either as he doesn't play for either league either but the D.R newspaper said that him and Jimenez look like will get the biggest bonuses. They usually know down there as last year they had an articles a bout players signing well before July 2 and it turned out to be legit. It way early there will be many more players just wanted to write about some info I've been able to find.

The Red Sox signed twins from Venz. According to BA. Basabe brothers signed for 450k each. The same names different middle names . One is a second baseman and goes by Luis Alejandro and the other is Luis Alexander and he is a center fielder. Both are 5 10 and 160. It sounds like the center fielder is more talented. This is in the new BA magazine on page 11. New issue.

So that adds up to 2,260,000 spent adding the reported bonuses from all the signings that have such info available. There was one that was not available but its probably not that big a signing.
The last time they signed twins it turned out great.

If you Google his name, it comes up with a few Spanish language sites, including Globovision, talking about the deal. We're looking into bonus amounts now. All the info I have on him is that he's from Romulo Gallegos, Cojedes, Venezuela and the signing scout was Angel Escobar.

Do you have a list with the names only?

Do you have a list with the names only? The link doesn't have one, but you could probably just deduce them: Bogaerts Iglesias Vinicio De La Cruz Margot Montas Lin maybe Mercedes And it must include players they signed but traded Alcantara Beltre Mendez Pimentel (who might still be on the Sox list now that I think about it) maybe Juan Rodriguez, Pineda, Tejeda

I'm not sure I understand the question. The prospects are guys like Bogaerts, Iglesias, Vinicio etc. Its an analyzes of how teams have fared in Latin America using their Handbook, 11 of the Red Sox top 30 are international signings so thats why they ranked 5th.

I totally got you wrong. I thought they signed 11 players this international signing period. Rijo, Almonte and all those guys. Never mind.

He notes that his list is not perfect. Either that, or the Yankees know something we don't by signing a 41 year old prospect named Omar Luis.

If prospects rankings are a little bit moronic then these type of rankings are BIG TIME moronic. Not saying you can't discuss the talent and who you think is better but I wouldn't put much credence to the rankings of 16 y/o where information is VERY limited in some cases.
For example: Jose Almonte got one of the top bonuses in D.R but there is really not a lot of info on him even Ben Badler said in his report that scouts had "been hard for some scouts to get a look at Almonte recently" so there is not really good report on him.
