Heard Sox were upset to miss out on MAG. Could see them going after him hard, hopefully for a reduced bonus, if Phils deal falls through.

It doesn't seem to me like it's health related. It sounds like it's language related to getting Philly some protection in case he's a bust or the elbow blows up.

Tbh I'm not too sure how much I want him now that Amaro seemed to covet him the most.

I understand Cherrington and company were rumored to be after him "hard", then how bad was the need? Lester will be gone after next year, along with Peavy and Dempster. Sox have to be hoping 2 of the kids at Portland and Pawtucket will be stepping in FT by then and another later. Gonzalez, from what have read myself isn't projected by the most glowing reports even to be better than a #3, probably a #4-5 and might be just a long reliever at the worst end. Add to this the severity of his elbow and how much does this possibly drop bids should Philly retract their offer, like Boston did with Ibarra 3 years ago when his physical turned up the labrum tear.

After we missed out on him reports came out that Boston were the "runner ups" in the MAG sweepstakes and that Ben & Co. viewed him as a long-term asset instead of someone who would help this year.

I admit I like rumors and conspiracy theories. This is mine. I believe the Phillies wanted to sign this kid. The problem is a lot of money is tied up so Amaro had a meeting assuring ownership he working on some deals to relieve financial burdens. But Amaro overplayed his hand and ended up doing nothing. So they go back and bring this crap up even though they knew all full and well this kid had those issues .
By the way I love it. Phillies bite off more than they can chew!!

Who says Boston can't sweep in and grab him at a lower price now. Cherington is a boss if he can do this.

I am not holding out much hope for MAG until I hear the Phillies have walked away. These snags pop up after the sides agree on money sometimes, and most of the time the original team still gets the deal done (at least my imperfect memory tells me this is the case).

Devers and other 3 signings official according to MLB.com linkDevers - $1.5 Million DeJesus - $787,500 Diaz - $600,000 Aybar - $450,000 Total of $3,337.500 putting us more than $150,000 over our bonus pool. EDIT: If I have this right, it puts us almost exactly 5% over our bonus pool where the penalties are a 75% tax but no limits on spending next year. link

im foggy on the rules for the international pool. We can still sign some guys for cheaper deals correct? I do believe the rule you're talking about is for people who go over one year. So Texas is WAY over this year, next year they can only sign players for $$$ under a certain amount (300 or 600 k I think) and can't sign anybody for over that. Our spending for this year is done and the only players we can sign are ones like MAG who won't count against our pool or else the penalties will more harsh on us. As I'm typing this I'm now wondering if there's a under 100k rule that we can sign anybody for under that without it counting.

Teams like Texas and I believe the Cubs will be restricted to signing players for up too 250k next year.
The Red Sox can sign players for 7.5k or less because they don't count against the cap. They also can sign up to 6 players for 50k that don't count against the cap. The number is off the top of my head so it may be more or less.
Unless they trade for more space or are willing to face the penalties they are done making splashes.

Also: linkThere's a quote that says the two pitchers have "tarter traits." I know it's just a typo, but I'd like to see us adopt this as technical term, and debate whether Workman, de la Rosa, and Britton have tarter traits or should be in the bullpen.
