One nice thing about grabbing a player like Barfield in the Rule 5 (if you are so inclined) is that there's not really a "making him sit on the bench stunts his growth" apprehension. His upside is a dude who can mash a little off the bench, so if you think he can do that now it's worth taking a shot. It's not like the time Jason Garcia had his development ruined by pitching like 12 1/3 innings in a season when he really needed the reps for the Orioles a few years back.

I can see it all right now Jeremy Barfield crushes the game winning homer and then comes into record the save. That would be cool.
