Speier reporting that the Red Sox have traded Lorenzo Cedrola to the Reds for international bonus pool $$. Amount unknown.
ADD: Red Sox subsequently announced the trade.

Makes you wonder if they kept Cedrola in Greenville to keep his numbers shiny although they probably had this deal lined up a while back...

I was expecting someone like Jerez to get traded. I hope something with big upside is coming our way.

Can't imagine we're getting a lot of money for him, not that the teams in the penalty have much leverage.

That's too bad about Cedrola. I thought of him as somebody with a decent hit tool that can run and play defense but didn't have a great eye at the plate and no power.
I thought of him as somebody who if he hit well could be a regular on a bad team or be a backup outfielder on a good team. Am I overrating him here?
Hope the Sox are saving their money for Victor squared Mesa.

Without walks or power or elite defense (above average with a fringy arm isn't elite), there's not much upside there.

Just a reminder as to how difficult the scouting process is for international guys. Some of the highest ranked international prospects do pan out (e.g., Rafael Devers, Gleyber Torres, Eloy Jimenez), most do not (have you heard of Leonardo Molina, Nelson Gomez, or Gustavo Cabrera?), and ultimately, a sizable portion of the guys who become studs in MLB were never included among top 30/50 lists (e.g., Bogaerts, Jose Altuve, Ronald Acuna Jr., Victor Robles, Luis Severino, etc.)

Cedrola's contact skill made him interesting to me because that's always the toughest thing to develop. Ideally you want a better approach on a guy with that set of skills, but he was (is) worth following. If there's a guy they're targeting with that money, it's cool, but it would be nice to have at least someone decent in A ball right now.

I’m gonna wait until we hear how much they got for Cedrola, but the approach this year has me scratching my head. Largest bonus they’re gonna give our is to Lopez at 1.15 Million. I saw the outfielder from the Dominican got $500,000 but I can’t imagine they’ve even spent their own pool yet. I’m starting to think that Mesa might actually be a target for them. Having not even seen a workout, I don’t know if he is though. Maybe they’re just gonna sign a load of the 50-100 guys.

Victor Victor has been one of the most heavily scouted international prospects in recent years (international tournaments etc). So it's not like they don't have a precise idea about his skillset and talent.

We'll see if the Sox also make more trades to open up more financial space to sign more players.

Further candidates to be traded? Maybe a Chandler Shepherd type? Anybody want Trey Ball?

Wow, that's a good investment since Cedrola was signed for $35,000. (I know that's not how it works) But definitely should be able to get a more exciting prospect or two with that money.
