Marco is a better shortstop than Holt but not as good as Lin who is a better shortstop than Xander. This is probably true, but 31 year old Brock Holt is probably not a good defender moving forward in a lot of places. I think people need to learn to move on from Holt soon. Lin is also out of options next year and the Sox will lose him if they don't keep him on the 25 man roster moving forward.

Does discussion assume that Pedy is not coming back? Holt is very popular in the dugout and with the fans. Not sure he goes anywhere. Hernandez, chatman, Lin and Chavis all need to be looked at very carefully. I think that 2 of these will be gone for next spring. I think Chavis and Hernandez. Just another decision for Dave to make. And it does not appear to be about money per se.

How close to this decision is Cannon, lugo, and Fitzgerald?

Chatham has been very good vs LHP, with his defense, he'd be a nice utility/platoon infielder who could complement whoever the organization select to play second base next year from Holt/Marco/Lin. I won't consider Chavis as an option and the Sox should sell high on him by trading him this winter IMO.

That's more like selling low. I don't really see a scenario where Chavis wouldn't be useful to the Sox as at least a low-cost insurance plan at both 1B and 2B. I don't think you'd get anything better than that back in a trade.

Sox may have a weak system right now but their are guys coming up that can platoon at positions of need.

I am never a fan of trading home grown talent. I think we need to keep chavis. He adds value by being able to play 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
