Anyelo Gomez ... 26 year old reliever from DR. 95-96 mph. Induces weak contact. Prior Rule 5 pick. Missed much of 2018 recovering from shoulder surgery.

I just saw that Richie Martin was selected by the Orioles from the A's. I guess he never panned out but I remember catching a few of his games his initial season when he was playing for my home state Lake Monsters as a first round pick. I remember thinking he was maybe somebody to follow as he moves up the ranks but guess he hasn't panned out yet.

Schwaab is a sidearmer with an 89-91 mph fastball and an 82-84 mph slider.

Gomez and Schwaab were teammates at Trenton in 2017. They ranked 3rd and 4th in ERA among their relievers, minimum 10 G.
Who ranked first?
Colten Brewer.

Unfortunately, all three never pitched in the same game, but they did pitch on the same day, July 29. And it was fun!
In the first game, Shwaab came in the fifth and allowed two inherited runners to put the starter in position for a loss, then was set up to vulture a win when Trenton rallied, and Brewer relieved him in the 6th and allowed two of his inherited runners, wiping out Schwaab's vulture, and then Trenton scored in extra innings -- the eighth --and got Brewer the vulture.
In second game, Gomez entered a scoreless tie in the 4th and gave up 5 runs to earn the loss.

First round pedigree, and his defense will help him stick even if the bat never gets there. And the Orioles should be in a position to give him the playing time that it won't stunt his development, and he's not the type of guy who is so far away from the majors that he's likely to get overwhelmed. Seemed like the A's had something of a roster crunch, but I'm really surprised they didn't fine a way to protect him.

Same rules for AAA portion?
Player must stay in AAA entire season, or just on AAA reserve list?
Good pickups!

I can see him riding the Boston/Pawtucket shuttle along with Brewer. The Red Sox are stocking up on relievers from the Yankee organization, does that mean Dave Robertson is next?

Very unfamiliar with the rules for the minor league portion. What restrictions were the Sox up against where they manage to lose a guy like Tyler Hill? Not that he's set the world on fire, but he's a 22 year old who's still worth tracking. I guess I more expect to lose 26 year old org types when I think of the minor league Rule 5.

Not sure why I somehow convince myself every time that the Rule 5 will provide some excitement for my winter doldrums and it never does.

The MLB portion of the Rule 5 draft is done and Josh Ockimey was not selected. Which now begs the question. Trade chip?

Unlike the Major league portion, once you draft, you keep. Player does not have to be offered back to original organization.

You know, given the number of times I've read today that there are no reserve list-type restrictions on the milb portion, I don't know if that's true. It is possible that this is just a simplification, but saw it enough that I don't think it is.

He pitched last year for the O's AAA team and wasn't that good.

I'm guessing the Sox think he'll be returned if drafted. Otherwise they more likely would have traded him for a lower level prospect. I'm also guessing it won't be the Orioles that draft him, they don't have a true shortstop on their 40 man. Richie Martin was selected with the 20th pick in the 2015 MLB Draft three years ago by the A's. ... It was shocking that the A's didn't protect Martin and kept him off their 40-man roster after his breakout 2018 season. For the Rule 5 stans, it was no surprise the Orioles took the shortstop with the top selection.www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/athletics/rule-5-draft-richie-martin-former-top-pick-goes-no-1-orioles
