MLB.Com reports that the Sox have had discussions with the Orioles about Machado and that a trade most likely would involve Devers. I think this has to be a bit far-fetched, and extremely unwise, unless a long-term deal with Machado could be made as part of the trade.

It says that the writer Rosenthal speculates that Devers would be involved. Common sense tells you that's what Duquette would/should demand. It also says they haven't found common ground which means that Dombrowski would tell Duquette he's crazy if he thinks he's getting Devers for a few months of Devers. I think Dombrowski is just doing his due diligence. I mean you have to ask, right?

When both execs have the same initials it'd be a big help if you wrote out names.

If you trade Devers for Machado, you better be getting a whole lot more than Machado. A whole lot more that would take out of the Orioles farm system and make them bad for longer, which they probably wouldn't want to do.

They refuse to even invest in international talent.

I think some of the off-field considerations have to factor in. For eg. how does Machado even feel about the RS personnel and org in general? I've heard he's hostile but that could just be rumor based on the Pedroia and Jones incidents.
Since another rumor is the nyy have centered their FA focus for 2019 on Machado it would be pretty bad to lose out to them, after having traded your 21yo 3b for a 3-month rental. The criticism would be pretty tough to take and probably something the FO would never would want to go through even if the deal included another piece coming from the O's.
I don't take this potential deal seriously.

Yeap this is pure crap, I think. The Sox love Devers. The only reason why this even has life is because Dombrowski targets high profile names, but I don't see this move happening. Machado is great, but Devers isn't going anywhere.
If the Orioles want them some Chavis or Groome, have at it. I'll take that at this point for Machado, but I don't see that happening.

fancredsports.com/articles/inside-baseball-mlb-notes-devers-isnt-going-anyw"They are being asked about Rafael Devers, but one source insists: “He’s not going anywhere.” And a rival agrees. “If Boston traded Devers, they should immediately report to a psychiatrist.” That exec also put it this way: “He’s just a puppy,” he said of the 21-year-old. “He’s done well. He’s done OK at third base. And he will hit 35 or 40 home runs someday.” …"

I think Machado gets traded to Philly & Maikel Franco ends up in San Diego & Brand Hand (with others) ends up in Baltimore. Then Hand goes to ?

Philly seems to make a lot of sense.
