Sox bullpen arms- Kimbrel Kelly Barnes Hembree Workman Velazquez Thornburg Brashier That's 8 arms already with a 3 man bench. Not to mention the fact that the Sox are hunting for a reliever come trade deadline because Kelly is too inconsistent. -Brashier has done nothing to deserve a demotion. In fact, his stock just keeps rising imo. -Thornburg just struck out 2 batters in his best appearance since joining the Sox. -If I'm the Sox, I'm taking advantage of Workman's good early results and trading him at the trade deadline or I'm just trading Pomeranz as a salary dump for another future releiever that Dave Dombrowski is about to acquire. -It has to be Velazquez that gets sent down if the Sox call up Pomeranz, baring no injuries or trades from the current 25 man roster. -Thornburg and Brasier are battling out the last spot on the roster by the time Wright comes back baring no more injuries between now and September. My money is on Brasier. -Thank god Swihart's versatility gives the Sox the option of carrying a 3 man bench until September. -Vazquez won't be back until rosters expand in September due to a roster crunch. Keep in mind the Sox have the intention of bringing up Brandon Phillips in Aug and they might add a 2b anyways in a deal (in that case perhaps Nunez gets DFAed?), so that would increase the bench to 4, which I think is their intent anyways. I doubt the Sox are sending Thornburg down. It'll be either Workman, Velazquez, or Brasier (no H in Brasier). If it were me it would be Workman who I like, but unless his curve is nasty, his FB hasn't done too much lately.

Again, IF things don't improve, does this sound like somebody we carry in a pennant race in his walk year ?
"Velocity is not up. It's been 89-90, I think,"Cora said. "Inconsistent with the breaking stuff."
Raise your hand if you think it's only mechanics.

He'll be back but it'll be probably in a piggyback starter/long relief role. Cora is smart enough (and I like how candid he has been about it) not to send him out there unless he absolutely has to. Given the starting pitching situation now, let's hope doesn't absolutely have to.

They're going to give Pomeranz the time he needs on his rehab, but this club is in no position to jettison him, especially after the Rodriguez injury. If anything they now will probably need to add starting pitching via trade.

I'd rather that Velazquez, Johnson and Beeks start over him. The xwOBA of batters who face him is .360.

BJ has an outstanding curveball that he commands very well and doesn't count on high fastballs like a high spin rate pitcher would. This club is in no position to carry him if he doesn't turn it around. He can't even get minor leaguers out.
