Esteban Quiroz had a 3/4 night tonight to bring him up to .300 in the AFL with a 1.028 OPS. This is on top of his 1.011 OPS in Portland this year. SSS, but he has shown a very good bat in the highest levels of the minors. Is he the answer at 2B next year if Pedroia isn’t ready to go?

He's definitely one of the candidates. I've seen him bat a few times and he's a tough out, but I haven't seen the glovework.

We have to hope Pedey will be ready, and put up a season similar to, say, 2017, with great defense, 350 OBP, grinding AB’s and 35 doubles, in fewer games. I CAN’T see him NOT coming back, and I can’t see him not producing. So Cora may have to protect that knee with rest and days off in order that Pedey can contribute meaningfully through the rest of his contract. That would be good for this team. I like Quiroz in particular and the Mexican League in general. I saw him more as a bat first utility infielder whose best position is 2B, which would make him a good backup for Pedey. Is his bat better than Marco’s? Will Marco return from multiple shoulder surgeries? Is his glove as good as Lin’s or Holt’s? So many questions. So many good answers. And will Duran be a 2B when Pedey transitions to coaching? Or will he be roaming CF? More good questions. The Sox still have some good choices at 2B.

I got a very AAAA impression from his time up for Spring Training. Good patience, good pitch recognition.... couldn't catch up to fastballs on the inner half. I suspect MLB pitching is going to eat him up when he gets a chance.

He had just arrived from the Mexican League in ST, though, and if he already looked 4A-ish, that would be a good sign. He did quite well in AA and AFL, which allows us to entertain the possibility that with his skill set he is as likely as anyone to adjust to inside heat. Let’s hope so.

B Mand: I have seen a lot of conflicting reports on Dalbec and what the future holds for him. Am I wrong for thinking his skill set is similar to Gallo, maybe with a slightly better glove? Keith Law: He’s not Gallo. Gallo has more power, and better pitch recognition. Dalbec can defend and really throw, but his ability to pick up spin is not where it needs to be to project him as a regular.

Johnson with a near perfect outing in Japan. 3.2IP 6H 7R 4ER 4BB 2K I think 5 of those 6 hits were bloopers or weak ground balls. I'm watching it now.

Ockimey opened with a walk and followed up with a 2-run double off the base of the wall. The good news was that the double was off a lefty. The bad news is that it was a hanging breaking ball so it was mostly an example of hitting a mistake.
Shawaryn with 2 shutout innings.

I'm having a hard time figuring out why it didn't happen much to guys like Jim Palmer when he was striking out 5 per 9. I guess it helped having Brooks Robinson at 3B, Mark Belanger at SS and Bobby Grich at 2B.

Jim Palmer's ERA was .65 lower than his career FIP so I think it's fair to think he had some batted ball/situational pitching magic of his own. 68.9 bWAR for his career vs. 56.6 fWAR.
