They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). 101mph on the corner. Wow. Great early sign. Painting early with heat
Edit: I'm an idiot

Eovaldi painted on a 101 mph fastball on the corner for the first strikeout of the game. That might be one of the flashiest strikeouts you'll see all year. Up to 20 pitches in the first inning. I don't know why he isn't better. His stuff screams top of the rotation stuff, but can he can't quite get there I guess.
Edit- Umpire isn't helping.

I actually thought ball for Enciarte could have been called a strike

Offense snoozing again out the gate, starter throwing a lot of pitches.

That is strike three on Freeman. C’mon!

Lyons is right: Eovaldi needs to throw more fastballs. He doesn’t pitch like a guy who throws 100. He should challenge guys more. If they drive a 100-mph fb, tip the cap.

Eovaldi needs to throw strikes. 30+ pitch innings won't cut it.
Seems to not have swing and miss stuff

I think Eovaldis problem is a LITTLE consistency (working with Pedro) and pitch selection/mix. He has great stuff

Eovaldi needs to throw strikes. 30+ pitch innings won't cut it. It’s the cutter. It is not swing-and-miss right now, so either they foul it or let it go for a ball. He has to trust his fastball more. Edit: 23 of 39 pitches for strikes doesn’t seem like it should result in walking half the guys you face. Eovaldi is a victim of being at once hard to put in play but not quite a strikeout guy.

Red Sox need to put up some long at bats this any.

If Eovaldi can become a bit more efficient, he might be able to make it through 3. He'd be on pace for a pitching line of 3 0 0 0 9 6.
Side note: it's 2018 and that insipid racist tomahawk chop has been annoying me for a quarter of a century. Between that, and their abandoning the city of Atlanta for the dreary sprawl, the Braves are easily my second-least favorite team.

Nope Batters showing very little patience and when they swing it looks like the bat weighs 5 pounds. No one seems to have bat speed right now. Heavy bats ans weak contact

I tell you this: Eovaldi has the stuff to be a great bullpen addition in the playoffs. That is one thing unsaid (I think) in the critique of DD for not trading: the bulpen trade may have happened. No matter how well he pitched as a starter, Eovaldi was always likely to get squeezed out by Sale, Price, ERod, and Porcello. If he comes in blasting at 100 mph, that could be a thing to behold. As frustrating as this has been as a start, I’d take 2 scoreless innings late in a tight game.

The NL rules won't help this offense. Eovaldi won't swing the bat and anyone besides Swihart in the catching position is close to a automatic out. The Sox are probably the team that hurts the most with no DH rule. This team is at it's best when JDM is DHing.
