So funny... on a day we begin by grousing about offense and pitching, we go into the bottom of 9th at 8-2.
May the Sox always suck like today!! 🍺
Edit: and I mean “we”! I am bad as anyone.

Our offense had been dead before we scored 3 runs though. Besides the one guy rooting for a no-hitter against, everything said was just factual. A no-hitter would be painful but This offense has been in a serious funk for a while now except a few innings here and there. They need to be woken up. I would have taken the short term pain (no hitter) in hopes of hitting rock bottom and getting a wake up call for long term success
Bad news - they ended up scoring 8 runs. Hopefully they'll get no-hit tomorrow, or at least shut out; then those bats will get the wake-up call they so desperately need!

In typical Kimbrel fashion, he will probably throw 30+ pitches and not be available tomorrow

Beni has been really good this year, and I love him. I don’t know if this counts as a “but” or an “and...” I think his big breakout season is yet to come. I think he’s probably going to follow a similar development path as Christian Yelich, but with a better hit tool. Similar all-around but I think Beni’s just a bit better in most aspects.

In all seriousness, Atlanta wouldn't appreciate it, but with this lead what I'd do is bring in Pomeranz, and if he gets 2 outs with minimal damage, bring Kimbrel in just to get the last out, hopefully in relatively few pitches. Get him back into the flow without any more than minimal work.

Wow. What a funk with our bats. All you ever have to do is wait a little bit. Yes, but how can you possibly feel good about an offense that needed a couple of looks at one of the better pitching prospects in baseball (who they've never seen) to get going today and has scored less than six runs in two of their last seven games...

We do score in bunches! The recent final scores don't tell half the story...makes it fun, though!😀

As a general rule there should be no grousing about the offense allowed until roughly the 5th inning. Once they’ve seen a pitcher’s stuff, they usually blister him. And they have no trouble with high-velo relievers.

I'm hoping that 2017 Kimbrel does show up at some point for even a month (let it be October) this year.

I think Cora should forbid Kimbrel throwing anything but a fastball until he gives up a run. You are up SIX for crying out loud. Make them hit cheese. But don’t walk guys.

I'm hoping that 2017 Kimbrel does show up at some point for even a month (let it be October) this year. Well the good news is that the extra rest he has gotten in the last month has brought his velocity back up to 99. I think he'll be fine when he shakes the rust off.

Not brilliance from Kimbrel, but overall somewhat encouraging. Following a very encouraging inning from Barnes.

This was a big time win for the bullpen today. Eovaldi gave them no length against one of the best offenses in the NL and they gave up 2 runs in about 6 innings of work (one of those runs resulted in a string of cheap base hits in a row).
I think this team is winning it all this year. There's no doubt, this is the best team in MLB this year. Hopefully it plays out this way in October.

Fantastic win. Kimbrel was in control against every batter he faced, even the walk he gave up was due to a good AB. I'm encouraged by how he and Barnes performed today.

Fantastic win. Kimbrel was in control against every batter he faced, even the walk he gave up was due to a good AB. I'm encouraged by how he and Barnes performed today. Overall, I agree. But that description of the walk is a bit of a stretch. He fell behind 3-0 on pitches that weren't close, caught the edge on 3-1, Markakis fouled one off at 3-2, then he missed by a mile for ball 4. Again, encouraging, especially considering the rust, but the walk wasn't exactly a fluke.

Wright's fastball topped out at a little over 88 mph too today. He clearly showed he's healthy, strong, and ready to go for hopefully the next two months. Just awesome. Have fun on the West Coast, New York.

looks like that A's - Yankees game is gonna be a wild one...back and forth; that A's offense is good. Glad we were done with all our west coast trips early this year.

And if you'd like to discuss grousing in the bigger picture the Red Sox are 20-10 since August 1. Much of the recent bump in the road and frustration stems solely from walking into Tampa, facing a team on a long winning streak and playing/pitching as well as anyone. That series remains why things have 'looked bad' recently... They're 20-7 in Aug/Sept (culminating in a split with Cleveland) if you remove that one series and 5-2 since - they've done all of this without Sale, ERod and Wright and with Porcello and Eovaldi pitching pretty badly (at least of late)... It's also pretty clear what kind of effect getting virtually nothing from five of their six best starters would have on the bullpen. With Sale, ERod, Price and Wright all back by this weekend and Porcello and Eovaldi likely to revert (at least closer to their means) then the bullpen will gain reinforcements and rest and likely be much steadier. With an offense that scores 8 runs on a 'listless' day supporting them, there may not be much to complain about, so shut this place down...

Sorry I missed the game, but all the members nipping at each other, in a good way, was really funny. It also shows we have an invested group here and I always get a chuckle out of it.
Another series opening win........The guys are good !!
