Well Robby Scott should be non tendered or DFA'd once the season is over. Bye bye Scott.

That is the worst appearance by any Sox reliever since Daniel Bard hitting a few Jays and we never seen him in the majors again.

Benni Boy hasn't hit much for weeks/months now. I'm struggling to remember the last time he pulled a long fly ball.

Benni Boy hasn't hit much for weeks/months now. I'm struggling to remember the last time he drove a fly ball hard in the air to his pull side He's just slapping and hitting medium flyballs, sometimes it finds a hole. Everybody seems down since August except JBJ and Bogaerts.

Benni Boy hasn't hit much for weeks/months now. Admittedly he hasn’t hit for power but he hit .337 in July .270 in August .297 so far in September that’s not terrible.

In the Sox bullpen, to appease Sox fans.

Still not sure why they simply didn't start Johnson and see if he could go 5 and then go with their regular pen setup. I could have done without Robby Scott. He can't throw strikes. A LOOGY who can't throw strikes is kind of useless.
Not a big deal that they're basically punting the game. It's just too bad that they won't get any help from the Jays tonight who are really, really playing out the string.

While I want to blame this on Gomes, clearly, we we're throwing out AAA filler today.

Betts letting hittable pitches go by and swing at crap over the past month.

Thornburg again...this game is helping sort out who belongs in a postseason pen, at least.

well, this game was set up to be what it has become - the pitching match up, long season - can't win them all, and hopefully a stinker like this is a bit of wake up call. Wow, though - UGLY (or as Eck likes to say, Yuck).
And, yes, Gomes...figures.

We gonna lose 2/3 in this series. It’s 2 bullpen games vs two of the best starters in the majors. Let’s not over react please

That was a painless loss. The outcome was really never in doubt. Johnson should have gotten the start but ultimately it wouldn't have mattered anyways.
Now I wonder who piggybacks Chris Sale on Sunday. Maybe Velazquez now? I guess Pomeranz would be available, too?
Tomorrow the Mets have a much lesser pitcher on the mound, whoever he is. I hope Porcello pitches well and the Sox pound the starting pitcher. It would be nice to look up at the scoreboard and see 5-0 Red Sox in the 3rd inning or something like that.
The Sox could use a laugher victory where the outcome is not in doubt. The team really hasn't hit much over the past week. Maybe tomorrow is the day the offense explodes.
I hope so, because if the Sox don't win tomorrow, it's not out of the realm of possibility they get swept by the Mets. Not that it's the end of the world, but the Mets (with the exception of the 69 Mets) are the team I hate most beyond the Yankees - and totally because of that arrogant 1986 team. Yup, I still hold grudges.

Betts letting hittable pitches go by and swing at crap over the past month. You post this, or something very similar, nearly every day that you post. Mookie Betts entered today hitting .388/.516/.612 over his last 15 games. He's having arguably the best season by a Red Sox position player in my lifetime. What, exactly, are your expectations for him? I understand it's human nature to post more about the things that are going poorly, but take a look back at your posting history and you'd think they're the Orioles. The 2018 Red Sox are now 101-47 and you're posting stuff that fans should demand their money back. I've held off calling you out in the past, but the Sox are coming off a streak of some pretty thrilling wins, and just blew past the 100 win-mark for the first time in my 70-year-old father's life, and yet the gameday thread is just a constant buzz of your negativity. We're all free to like baseball in our own way but... what is it that you actually enjoy about baseball? What is going on here?

Thornburg is the "Lackey trade" by Dombrowski, isn't it? It's the one single stupid move that looked bad when it happened and proceeded to look even worse as time went on.

Thornburg is the "Lackey trade" by Dombrowski, isn't it? It's the one single stupid move that looked bad when it happened and proceeded to look even worse as time went on. The Lackey trade was worse because it was bad even from, like, a theoretical standpoint. Cherington backed himself into a corner where he felt like he had to trade Lackey, but also was worried about getting fired, so he "needed" to trade him for players who were ready to help immediately so they could win in 2015. Which is extremely limiting--how many teams were looking to trade for John Lackey at the trading deadline, and also in a position to trade major league-ready talent? By dictating that he HAD to trade Lackey, and also that he needed a very specific type of return, he limited his trading partners to the Cardinals. Cherington managed to work himself into a no-leverage situation when dealing a productive and ornery player who was signed for like $375 the following season. How you end up playing that into a no-leverage situation, I don't know, but I feel really strongly that, for all his faults, that's not an error that Dombrowski would make. ----- The Thornburg trade was just a garden-variety "why did you give up so much for that guy" with a "well goddammit piece #2 in that trade turned into a star in a way nobody saw coming" as a kicker. Which, when you make THAT many 3-for-1 and 4-for-1 trades, that happens a few times. The Thornburg trade is much more the equivalent of the Andrew Bailey trade. I thought both were bad at the time, but I also never envisioned losing either Shaw or Reddick turning out to be so regrettable.

Mookie was sitting at 9.8 WAR prior to tonight, doubt he catches 67 Yaz, but yeah what more can you ask for. I swear, I think some posters here post on the Remy report on FB. People were freaking out about tonights loss, it was hilarious, completely ignoring the previous 101 wins.

Several posters will be relieved, if the Sox make progress on the clinch in the next 2 days.
On the other hand, if they don't ...
