Lol sorry was a little tired and my math was a little off while working last night... No worries. Clearly this year Xander has been more balanced between road & home than Didi, based on OPS anyway.

Chris Cotillo Verified account Pitching matchups for Red Sox-Yankees this weekend at Fenway: FRI: J.A. Happ vs. Brian Johnson SAT: Lance Lynn vs. Nathan Eovaldi SUN: Luis Severino vs. Rick Porcello They are lining up Happ for that wildcard game. The Sox will get Severino game 1 if they beat Oakland. Their choices for the WC game will be Tanaka on 6 days, Sabathia on 5, or Happ on 4. Tanaka was brilliant from mid-July on until getting hammered his last two starts. Sabathia was killed his first three September starts, but then good vs. the O's and great vs. the Rays. Happ's been consistent for them and has not benefited from extra rest in his career, so I think you're right about him pitching the WC game.
But if they win, then they have Tanaka on 8 days, Sabathia on 7, or Severino on 4 (if he actually starts on Sunday) or 9 for ALCS game 1. Severino reversed his second-half collapse when they started giving him 6 days rest (twice, then 5), so I think his Sunday start on 4 days rest is going to be just a tune-up of a few innings.
Tanaka has to start either game 1 or 2 for them, and what makes sense is that they were looking at Tanaka on 8 days or Severino on 9 for game 1, felt that the latter is too much rest for anyone, and so are tuning him up on Sunday. Severino on 4 followed by Tanaka on 9 doesn't make any sense when they could go Tanaka on 8, then Severino on 5.
Meanwhile, I think E-Rod's role in the CS is pretty clear: he'll be available to piggy-back on Sale in game 1 and Porcello in game 4 (on 3 days rest). IOW, he's insurance against a bad start by either of the two big question marks. If they don't need him in game 4, he could even start game 5 if Sale looks like a bad idea.

Yeah, I read those numbers wrong. Both home parks benefit these guys and Gregorius has benefited more this season. As far as defense goes it was a great day for NY when Jeter hung it up and he stepped in at SS. He also seems to have a knack for hitting against the Sox. If the teams do face off in the playoffs he may not be completely healthy which would be to Boston's benefit. Personally, I'd like to see the two teams go at it at full strength. It's late in the year and that may not happen. Sale looks tentative, and Hicks is also hobbled for the Yankees. All of that is if NY gets past Oakland, of course.

Can ERod pitch 2 innings game 1 and 2 innings game two if need be?
