despite his teases, this inning demonstrates why Kelly won't be on the postseason roster

From usage and performance, seems like Thornburg, Pomeranz, Hembree - now Kelly perhaps (keeps blowing up, like tonight) will be off the postseason. Kelly simply can't be trusted. Big spot for Brasier coming up. This year he's let 7 of 15 inherited runners to score - how he has three more to work on stranding.
nice job...

Quite a low key, anticlimactic feel to what is HISTORY. September 24 2018 the Red Sox win their 106th game. The Boston Red Sox formed in 1901 - 117 years ago.
We are witnessing the most wins ever achieved by this storied franchise. Quite incredible - we've been spoiled by experiencing such greatness, so many exciting moments - but this team - Mookie, Benny, JD, JBJ, Chris Sale and so many others - won the most!
Wow!
They now also have home feel advantage throughout the postseason.
Quite a night!
We also cemented a starter (Eovaldi), ERod's possible role in the pen, Brasier's ability to strand runners - and the continuing return of Matt Barnes. And a Mookie home run as he firms up the MVP.

Bring back Farrell anyone ? I guess to throw out the first ball in one of the games? Very glad he is in the rear view mirror, that's for sure!

Congratulations to the winningest regular season Red Sox team in their franchise history for winning their record breaking 106th victory of the season.
Eovaldi and E-Rod both looked good. Brasier and Barnes pitched well. Joe Kelly looked bad enough, hopefully bad enough to be left off the post-season roster?!
Mookie had a great night. A new career high in HRs and he now has 29 SB. He needs just one more to round out his MVP season.
It's great to see the Orioles at Fenway. Hopefully the Sox can sweep and re-establish their mojo in the final weekend of the season.

Bring back Farrell anyone ? Any time they hold a reunion for the 2013 World Series Championship team? Sure! The funny thing is that he was as much a breath of fresh air for the 2013 team as Alex Cora is a breath of fresh air for the 2018 team. Probably more so.

Pretty sure its over buddy It IS over. Trout will win it. Are you gonna give a reason? Or are you just trolling? They have comparable numbers Betts has a slighlty higher war and Betts team has 31 more wins.btw trouts team is under .500 by definition Betts is the clear winner. By numbers Betts is the winner. By eye test Betts is the winner

My interpretation could be wrong, though.

despite his teases, this inning demonstrates why Kelly won't be on the postseason roster I hope you're right but I still have a bad feeling that Kelly will make the roster because of his high ceiling of relief pitching. Jekyl Kelly is an excellent reliever capable of throwing any pitch to get out of any situation. Hyde Kelly is the most aggravating pitcher to watch. I'd hope that Cora would steer clear of that drama, but I'm not overly optimistic that he will. I'd have to think that at this point Heath Hembree has totally gotten himself removed from consideration given that he's getting crushed by the HR ball.

It shouldn't be forgotten that Joe Kelly was probably the best pitcher on the staff the past two post seasons.

Didn't watch the game because of work related reasons, but Mookie heating up for the playoffs is EXACTLY what you want to see.
Ohh and Cora basically just told everyone that Eovaldi is probably your number 3 playoff starter tonight and Eduardo will be in the bullpen.

Cora will now likely align the rotation to have 7 days rest before their planned start. Moving Price before Sale this series pretty much says Price will get game 1, Sale game 2. Then the righties for NY or Oakland on the road.

You have to feel sorry for Baltimore. Or not. Anyway, there's an old baseball saying: Every team starts the year with 50 wins and 50 losses in their pocket. It's what you do with the other 62 that counts. Well, not so fast. Baltimore only has 45 wins this year and has a real chance not to get their 50 wins. So much for old baseball sayings.

Bring back Farrell anyone ? Having won it all with a less talented team in 2013, I have no doubt he could have done it with this collection of stars.

I'm sorry, Chris Sale is the best pitcher in the planet. If he's not starting game 1, then the the Sox should rethink that ASAP.

Just because Price is pitching before Sale this series really doesn't tell you anything about who is pitching game 1. It's not like either of them would be starting on regular rest anyway (unless the game 1 starter pitches the last game of the season, but I kind of doubt that). Their first postseason game is a week and a half away. As for your comment previously about Eovaldi being the playoff starter over E-Rod, I don't think that's true either. Cora has already said that he wants to get both bullpen experience as who is in the rotation is going to depend on who the ALDS opponent. The way I see it, if we face the A's then it's E-Rod pitching in the Oakland; if we face the Yankees it's Eovaldi pitching in Yankee Stadium.

Dave D came out today and named Sale as game 1 starter in the playoffs.
Things I'd like to see in the last five regular season games - kind of a tune up post
Mookie play enough to keep him sharp, get stolen base #30 and seal the MVP (and WAR lead) Benny start to stroke the ball with regularity, though a bit of rest could help him JBJ continue to work on going the other way to get his hits JDM finding his bash stroke again - the hits are coming, but the power is a bit down Nunez demonstrating he is healthy enough for a roster spot post season Xander get to 100 RBI (he had some golden opportunities last night to get a few more than he did) Devers play in control - both in the field, and at bat Moreland start to show his bat isn't too slow to be used often in the post season Swihart get some more playing time to keep the bat fresh Leon start to figure out what's gone wrong A bit more stretched out Sale Porcello with a bit more life and movement and finish on his pitches a bit more resolution to the pen - a few more chances for Kelly, Poyner, Barnes, maybe Johnson, as Cora sorts out the post season roster spots - in differing leverage situations Enough innings to keep Kimbrel fresh
