My god, things are going the Yankees' way is the understatement of the year. Two plays at the plate that you cannot tell if the player touched home plate, both went their way. BABIP'd to death as well. Oh well, who cares? This game is meaningless like the next two.

Anyone here? We were watching the great british baking show (Roku) - had an eye on the score and knew I wasn't missing anything much. But - it is the 9th, we have men on second and third. Benny just popped out - 2 away. Rough night for Johnson, rougher for Cuevas...not great for Pomeranz. Ho hum...two more to go before the playoffs.
Britton looks pretty awful, by the way.

Well, this is turning into a bit of a fun ending to a throw away game!

The drama was fun - we are never say die. Asking Pearce to hit a second salami would be a bit too much!

Kind of a disappointment to not see Robby Scott and thus see the complete set of relievers who won't be on the post-season roster (along with none of the ones who will be).
Now, I'd really like to see them try to win the next two games, and succeed.
1) End the season by winning a series ...
2) From the team you might be playing next.
3) Get to 109 wins, topping the '75 Reds and '86 Mets and becoming the 3rd best team in the DH era.
4) Cora ties Ralph Houk for most wins by a first-time manager.
5) Yankees don't win 100. You are permitted to move this higher on the list if you wish.
6) Nicest individual numbers over the last two games if you win them both.
7) Hopefully, strong outings by all the pen guys. A vintage Barnes performance would calm a lot of nerves.
I mean, we just scored 6 runs off pitchers that will be used in the post-season, in a game they were trying to win. Let's build off of that. They get four days to rest after Sunday.

chance for one or more tiebreaker games on Monday is fading.
I have it at less than 35%.

I turned the game off at the same time that Cora was deciding to lift Cuevas, and watched Ingmar Bergman's Through a Glass Darkly, which was, relative to the game, delightful. I'll go downstairs in a bit and watch Winter Light for more relatively good times.
(If you only know Bergman by reputation, not all of his films are unrelentingly grim and philosophical, e.g., The Seventh Seal has a bawdy side-story. However ... these ones are.
I missed the first film of this "Faith Trilogy" when I was home with an abscessed tooth, and the second because I had a conflict, and I'll be missing a second screening of it because it's opposite game 2 of the DS. So I figured I should see them both before seeing the third film, The Silence, tomorrow night at the Harvard Film Archive. I'm doing 5 Bergman films with a total run time of 11 hr 19 min over the weekend.
If you're in the Boston area and you're a Bergman fan at all, you should know that the 5 hr 12 min version of Fanny and Alexander playing at the HFA Sunday at 1 PM might be the greatest film achievement ever, and you'll probably never again get a chance to see it on a screen bigger than a TV.)

I wonder how few innings the Red Sox can pitch in this series that will be by playoff pitchers. Maybe we'll get an 8 inning performance by Haley in one of these games?

You know what is great, and completely astounding? Season ending series with the MFY, and we have TWO pages on the thread, long after the first game is in the books. Yawn. Brothers, these are the best of times. They'll not likely last, so enjoy.

Why is Devers-Núñez even a discussion? Núñez looks horrible and is hurt and Cora says he still hasn’t decided who the starter is? Wtf?

Two more (meaningless, sorta) games to finish the sorting and decisions around the post season roster. I think it is just a long time habit to consider games against the MFY meaningfull...yet these really are not so.
I am also feeling much much better about this team heading for postseason and primed for success, when compared to 2016 and 2017. It is going to be a long agonizing wait until the action really gets underway, though.

Why is Devers-Núñez even a discussion? Núñez looks horrible and is hurt and Cora says he still hasn’t decided who the starter is? Wtf? Yeah not to mention there's this. I mean Devers is going through possibly his best stretch of the year at the very best time and Cora wants to play hot potato on this issue for some reason. I'm sorry for Nunez's hot "grizzled veteran" status, but we have all been waiting for Devers to start playing like this/get hot like this and now it's happening. Devers is destroying the baseball right now. Nunez shouldn't be playing at all, even against LHP. This would be a John Farrell like move if Cora decides to go to Nunez like Farrell did with Johnny Gomes in the 2013 playoffs.

Devers defense is awful. He had better hit. If his next two games he doesn't hit- maybe you'd look at that 19-3 game as an outlier if you look at very, very recent performance. I do prefer Devers but man his defense is awful.

The Silence is one of my favorite films. But I am on a constant quest to find the most depressing pieces of art in all genres I can. Someday I hope to stumble on absolute black.

Pete Abraham Verified account Yankees will start Domingo German instead of Lance Lynn today and Luis Severino has been scratched for tomorrow. They could pitch in relief. ... Sox looking for 2-3 IP for Eovaldi, same for Porcello tomorrow.

not sure if I should feel so ambivalent about the MFY's putting up good at bats this series. I don't want this to become a trend.
