How crazy it is that one team will lose two one-game playoffs and be eliminated? That's a crappy finish to a season.

I think this scenario today also shows why 1st place ties shouldn't be broken with a best of 3 series.
If there was a best of 3 series, when would the Wild Card game occur? How long would Atlanta be cooling their heels?

How crazy it is that one team will lose two one-game playoffs and be eliminated? That's a crappy finish to a season. I look at it this way. They get two chances to avoid it. That's kind of generous. Both teams are fortunate that they get the wild card game. If the Cards had finished up better that wouldn't even be the case for either LA or Colorado. As it is they fare a lot better than teams like the 1978 Red Sox or the 1980 Dodgers who got Game 163 and nothing else.

Yelich needs 1HR & 2RBI for a triple crown. Right now he's 2/2 with an RBI which makes him 1HR shy.
And Chacin has a nono going.

I think the system is fair, but that doesn't change the fact that it's an absolutely brutal way for the season to end for the players and fans of the losing team.

One thing that Alex Speier brought up in his newsletter that is a good point. How much of an advantage is it to be the #1 seed? Houston has been able to scout Cleveland for the last month and come up with a game plan. Ditto for Cleveland. The Red Sox couldn't do that because they won't know who they're playing until Wednesday. And these teams in the NL? I have no idea who anyone is scouting.

He’s the NL MVP for me and it’s not close. He got scorching hot for an extended time when they needed him most. It’s been probably my favorite non-Sox development this season. As an aside, as I’ve watched him develop, and now seen Beni for a few years, I find them quite similar. Yelich is taller, but their overall games/skills are remarkably evenly matched. It gives me a lot of hope for AB finding that next level soon.

I also think it's great that Rizzo & Lester ended up on the same team. I remember reading about how much support the Rizzo family got from the Lester family.

Wow wait til you hear Mike Ditka singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game if you didn’t just hear it. I missed it, I turned off the sound. Crowd mikes are too high. An aside, I still have Facebook contact with about 30 college dorm mates (we were/are tight). I just found out that one is an award winning hockey author. thehockeywriters.com/don-reddick-on-the-trail-less-traveled/

Brewers just scored a run in the 8th. Yellich due up, likely last chance.
ADD: Struck out on a pitch way outside.

Game over. 3-1 Brewers. Rizzo put one to the warning track with two outs and a runner on so, drama to the end.

For me the priorities should be offering contract extensions for Benni & Devers this offseason.

Remember how everyone said at the start of the season there were 7 superteams, Red Sox, Yankees, Indians, Astros, Nationals, Cubs, and Dodgers, and how boring that the outcomes in every division seemed so inevitable?
Didn't quite go according to plan in the NL, at least.

On MLB radio, they were discussing whether it would be smarter to use Happ in the Wild card game or have the ability to use him twice against Boston...

Eh, that's not nothing, but at the same time, I think if you're the Red Sox, spending the money you are, and your organization lacks the ability to prepare for the two wild card teams in this situation but would've been fine preparing for one, you're doing something REALLY wrong. It's no different than when the NFL teams that get a bye have to prepare for two teams. I'd rather that situation and have the WC team have to use their best starter in the WC game but a long shot.

We've known it would be one of two teams (one of which we've already 19 times and should be intimately familiar with) for at least two months now...how much more opportunity should you need to prepare?

Also, most years the second and third seed aren't sewn up early on as they were this year. The Braves were the only one of five NL playoff teams that had locked their seeding set after even 162 games, never mind opponent.
