Mets have a new GM and I think he needs to rebuild the entire franchise.
JBJ for Wheeler. (Saves a little $$$ too)
Rotation would be; Sale, Porcello, Price, E Rod & Wheeler with Wright, Johnson & Vazquez as depth.
JD plays LF, Betts in CF, Beni in RF
Sign Pearce to platoon with Moreland
Still have Holt, Nunez & all 3 Catchers
Just need to find a 4th OF, Swihart? Travis? Chavis?
I don't think JBJ's value has been this high since he was in AA. I think this off season would be a good time to move him. He will be 29 in April, has 2 years of arbitration left & made $6.1 mil this year.
Wheeler pitched well this past year, will be 29 in May, has 1 year of arbitration left and made $1.9 mil this year

If JDM is the DH who's playing the 3rd outfield spot? Chavis hasn't played the OF, so how could he be a 4th OF? And Travis is more of a 1b? Basically it's always trade JBJ for........ One day you may be right because it most likely won't be worth giving him big bucks and a long-term deal to play CF on the wrong side of 30 so a trade could happen, but why in the world would you do it now when you don't have to and you have a guy who is a plus defender who during the second half showed a consistently good bat? Did JBJ kick your dog or something? You can't wait to dump JBJ but you'd be willing to give last season's torch Pomeranz $5 million and you'd give Kimbrel big bucks and dump Eovaldi. How about trying to bring back Eovaldi, let Kimbrel walk and hang onto JBJ. I'd take Eovaldi's present and future over Wheeler's.

Travis is an OF/1B, Chavis can learn the OF & there is still Holt & Swihart or they could sign a 4th outfielder.
I like Wheeler better & think he is better then Eovaldi present & future & he will be less expensive then Eovaldi who will probably get 5yrs $100m.
And like I said: I don't think JBJs value has been higher since he was in AA. I think its a good time to trade him and get the max for him and I think that max is Zack Wheeler. I'm not a believer in JBJ as a major league hitter, never have been & I think he's proved me right. I think the Sox should move on from him now while his value is high but I'm concerned that other GMs around the league recognize what I believe to be true and the Sox will not be able to get a player as good as Zack Wheeler for him. I'm just hoping someone will be fooled by his very recent past and overpay which I believe Zack Wheeler would be.

I can't think of a worse trade than JBJ for Wheeler. First of all, the Mets need to rebuild, not trade for JBJ. Second, the Red Sox need JBJ way more than another slightly above average starting pitcher who is always hurt and had the fortune of pitching in huge NL parks in a weak division.
There is no possible way that Wheeler is better than Eovaldi in the AL East.
IF the Red Sox were interested in trading JBJ, they would have to be getting a younger replacement for him plus more.

also, like another person mentioned...why in the world would the mets want jbj??? they need prospects not a guy a couple years from free agency. i think you're just using wheeler as a diversion to your true purpose, which everyone knows by now...even someone fairly new and rarely on the forum like me.

Because, HOPEFULLY, they value him like you do (and many others on this board), and think that trading for him & signig him to an extension as a core player is a smart move.
If the new GM for the Mets is any good at his job he hangs up laughing at the offer of JBJ for Wheeler because he knows that it is a ridiculously low ball offer for a quality Starting Pitcher like Wheeler.

To be fair, he knows that everyone values him about 100 times more than he does because he has wanted to give him away for about 100 different players by now. And of course, he won't acknowledge that he OPS'ed .827 in the 2nd half of this season.

His value is high because he's good, not because he's exceeding his ability. Why have you wanted to get rid of him for the last 4 years? If they were blown away in a trade offer, I'd be willing to deal him, but they absolutely need to replace him and not just count on JDM/Travis/Swihart to fill the void. The Red Sox need two good to better CFers because of Fenway, and I don't think Benintendi is a good one.

I didn't read all the posts, so sorry if this was covered: why do the Mets need/want JBJ?

I can see why everyone thinks they should rebuild, but frankly its what the owners want! They Mets do have talent, one of the better rotations in Baseball and two aces. They just always seem to have a ton of injuries! I bet DD could make them a playoff team with some good quality moves!
That being said I'd make Swihart the center of a package for Wheeler. He's the type of young player that could help them next year and in the future. They just need depth more than anything. You want to talk about a bad system killing your depth look no further than the Mets. So I'd offer Swihart, a choice of Hembree/Workman, Travis, and maybe a Chandler Shepard type guy if it really took that much. Help clear some spots on the 40 man roster and gives the Mets depth. I can see Swihart, Travis, and Hembree/Workman really helping them plus they get years of team control.

I'm not sure if I'd choose to be stranded on an island with the guy who always suggests to trade away JBJ, or the poster that used to always suggest that we trade FOR Jay Bruce.
Like, I seriously wonder if the Red Sox did trade away JBJ, if you would propose trades where we picked up JBJ just so that you'd feel comfortable making trades where we got rid of him again.

I don't think JBJ's value has been this high since he was in AA. I think this off season would be a good time to move him. He will be 29 in April, has 2 years of arbitration left & made $6.1 mil this year. Wheeler pitched well this past year, will be 29 in May, has 1 year of arbitration left and made $1.9 mil this year I think Wheeler would be a great get...but trading JBJ? No, dude. Seriously, just stop. His poor start was totally out of whack with his xwOBA, and some positive regression at the end of the year made him a slightly above-avg player providing excess value and invaluable defense. He’s eminently capable of putting up a league-avg or slightly better offensive season, and his defense is stellar. Trading him creates a massive ripple that downgrades every OF spot (especially at the corners), which will affect the pitching staff as well. This is a championship club returning largely intact. They don’t *need* a pitcher. Even if Wheeler is healthy and good and puts up 3.5 WAR, that’s only about 2 WAR over what they can currently expect. I GUARANTEE you that, at DH alone, they don’t find a guy who can come even remotely within 2 WAR of JDM’s 5+ this year, let alone making up for multiple-position OF defensive loses. Just stop. You don’t trade to create new holes on a contending club. You trade from excess to clearly improve weaknesses. If the Sox want Wheeler (and I support his acquisition), they Red to do it by trading excess parts/redundant players. Maybe the Mets bite on a Chavis-Vazquez headlined package, but I’d be very wary of digging too deep into the system for much else. I love Wheeler’s stuff, and I think he’s very capable of putting up 3 or even 4 WAR, but he’s injury-prone and has just two control years, which will not be “cheap.”

I wouldn’t do Beni-Snell. Benintendi was more valuable this year, and he’s a fair bet to get into the 6-WAR range. I love Snell, but pitchers are a big injury risk and he had the luxury of a pitcher-friendly home park. The Sox also have zero minor league OF depth. Now, Devers, that’s another story. I still think he’s going to be a very good hitter, but with Chavis, Dalbec, Nishioka, Howlett, +/- Casas, there’s adequate depth to potentially (partially at least) replace him. It would also, say, allow them to move Porcello and sign Donaldson, for example, staying salary-neutral.

There’s a universe where you could argue that Céspedes is such a huge question mark (calcific degeneration of his Achilles’ tendons is probably a career death knell), but the Mets 1) wont swallow his contract, 2) are wedded to being middling, with no real organizational drive to go all-in either way, and 3) might be dumb enough to pull a lateral move, but the Sox aren’t.

Other than Betts, Benintendi would be the last player I'd trade on the whole team. His years of control when the team is up against it payroll-wise, tremendous upside, and low risk (seriously, we'd all be shocked if he hit below .270/.340/.430, right?) make him more valualble to the Red Sox than just about anyone they could get back. And he just popped a 4.0 bWAR season as a 23-year-old. Even if he plateaus he's an All-Star, and there's a real chance he won't plateau.

I hate the JBJ for Wheeler trade. Two years of JBJ vs 1 year for Wheeler? No.
I would do a Beni-for-Snell provided Sox trade (trade a pitcher/package a pitcher and . . . or don't get an "Eovaldi" in FA) or pick up in FA a very good bat. Snell is a beast. The bat must be very good. Without a very good bat for an everyday player, the trade would be useless. But imo Snell "is that good" to trade for.
