Gold Glove Winners Pos. AL NL C Salvador Perez, Royals Yadier Molina, Cardinals 1B Matt Olson, Athletics Freddie Freeman/Anthony Rizzo 2B Ian Kinsler, Red Sox DJ LeMahieu, Rockies SS Andrelton Simmons, Angels Nick Ahmed, Diamondbacks 3B Matt Chapman, Athletics Nolan Arenado, Rockies LF Alex Gordon, Royals Corey Dickerson, Pirates CF Jackie Bradley Jr., Red Sox Ender Inciarte, Braves RF Mookie Betts, Red Sox Nick Markakis, Braves P Dallas Keuchel, Astros Zack Greinke, Diamondbacks Congrats to JBJ for his first...about time. Mookie was a shoe-in for his 3rd straight. Congrats to Kinsler too I guess...was hoping Benintendi would make it a clean sweep for the Sox outfield, but Gordon's the incumbent so gotta be much better to knock him off probably. Biggest snub?

It should also noted tat Moreland and Benintendi were also finalists. No other team had five finalists.

There's a significant gap between sports talk radio and reality always, but no bigger gap than their two years of taking swipes at Benintendi's defense compared to his actual level of defensive play.

I don’t live in Boston or listen to sports radio: people think Benny’s D is bad? That amazes me. I cannot remember a time when he’s done something bad enough to make me mad at him. One of the things I love about him (and JBJ and Mookie) is how all around soundly they play — all smart players.

His arm is lacking, though accurate and he's quite good at dealing with the Monster. I wouldn't want him in CF or RF permanently though.

Liked the write-up in the Athletic article regarding GG and who got them, who maybe should have, then mentioning Sandy Leon led the AL in DRS if that would have been the measure used.
Rare to see poor offensive players get the award, but it does happen. Gordon this year.

I can’t believe Jd didn’t mak the cut for AL mVP. What a joke. Betts, Trout, Ramirez. The final numbers I mean Trout has some but Ramirez hit .270 I can’t believe JD Martinez is not on the final ballot. Cora is for Manager.

It’s true his batting average took a dive this year, but his on base percentage went up. He was a legit MVP candidate.

JD was 7th in bWAR in the AL. Had a huge year at the plate but tough to argue that his overall contributions were clearly better than Betts, Trout, Liriano, Ramirez, Bregman, and Chapman.

Martinez was awesome and helped protect our hitters and took a good offense to elite. Yet I have zero issues with him not being an MVP finalist. I'm actually glad, so many years Ortiz and Manny hurt each other by being both on the ballot. Betts deserves it and better win! It seems like a slam dunk really.

He's definitely good, but I don't watch him and say "ooh, there's a guy who should get a Gold Glove". I do with Mookie, JBJ, Pedroia, Moreland, Leon and Kinsler (before the Series). And yes, I know that, as a doughy middle aged man, I should stop saying "ooh" so much.

[bra Yeah but oooh, he is obviously growing into that position and oooh he was a GG finalist. And we can watch him improve as the 35 year old winner fades. Lol. Give him time to reach his prime.

I'm so happy they announce award "nominations" now (which aren't even nominations - they already know who won, they basically just announced the top three), so that we can also fight over who should've been third place as well as who wins.

Eh, I'm definitely not one of those "participation trophies are the reasons all these kids are soft!" folks that call into WEEI every time a player asks for a raise, if that's what you mean. I'd actually be cool if the top three got something tangible: That would at least dignify the outrage. Like, maybe if they got invited to some big awards gala hosted by David Oritz. Right now there's no real difference between finishing third and fourth - it's just something they decide to announce a week beforehand to get people riled up for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me. And they aren't actually nominees or finalists or whatever. It's not like the Oscars, where it's a two-tiered voting system and they choose finalists and then re-vote to choose the winner FROM the finalists. They do they same vote they always have, they just announce the top three beforehand.
EDIT: I would actually watch an awards show hosted by David Ortiz.

Yeah I don't know why they don't just announce the awards now either. They use to 15 years ago or something like that. I was just trying my attempt at a joke with the participation award thing.
I would also watch anything with Ortiz on TV, because who doesn't like Ortiz? (besides Yankee fans)

I know the AL OF wasn't overflowing with offensive talent this year, but did JD really need to win the award there and at DH? They could have given another guy some recognition.

They sure have about 100 times more awards than they used to. JDM won 2 Silver Slugger awards somehow, one as DH, one as OF. And Mookie Betts won the Heart & Hustle Award, whatever that is. (and also a Silver Slugger)

I miss the Rolaids Relief Man award. More sponsored awards, please, at least indigestion-based sponsorships.

I hope Brock Holt has a monster 2019 season and breaks JDM's record by winning six Silver Sluggers at once.
