Pedrofan I admire the tenacity with which you're arguing this against basically everyone else, it reminds me of myself during the Farrell days. So I'm not exactly the perfect person to say you should let this go, but remember that the great Sun Tzu once said that "victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win". You're not getting this win, the difference in salary between Pearce and Cron is not enough that you could realistically hope to get a significant upgrade at any position of need that would be, you know, significant enough to justify punting an all time great dude and flat out better player than Cron.
Think about it this way. Watchmen-era Carla Gugino asks you out for a date and it's going to cost you like a hundred bucks just for the restaurant. By your logic, you should ditch that and ask out your neighbor instead. It doesn't matter that she's missing some teeth, smells like fish and has a weirdly pronounced adam's apple. With that money you could take her out for McDonald's, buy a PS4 game, a new shoe and some mint flavored condoms. Hey that's some great value, right? This is literally what you're arguing.

Eh....look at it this way. they are only paying him $4.25 million in salary....and a $2 million dollar bonus for an amazing post season run.

I tried to read this entire thread, but it was pretty repetitive. Its not really a "Pearce vs Cron" thread as it is a "Pearce vs Cron/Pearce was over paid.... blah, blah, blah" thread.
I agree with most here in thinking this was a good deal for a player who fit in perfectly, loves being here, won a WS MPV and will not tie us up financially past 2019.
I do not think Cron is better, but if I did, who is to say how he would fit on the team here? There is an old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it".
My two cents...

We haven't discussed the outrageous money that could be saved by replacing Pearce with Cron. Four less letters on the uni back @ $??.?? Per letter. Might be enough to find a "reclamation project" 7th starter or a fourth catcher.

I liked this just for the Carla Gugino love. And if you’ve seen “The Haunting of Hill House,” you know she’s still got it.

Great actress too, did a heck of a job in Haunting (although I didn't love the series, tough for me to get invested when I hate all of the characters lol).

Yeah, she’s always been underutilized as an actress imo. I get what you mean about the characters, though I like Theo a lot, and I’ve had enough experience professionally with mental health/addiction issues that i can empathize with Luke, and the dad. Not so much a fan of the older siblings tho. But I find the character exploration fascinating (and the child actors are great), and it’s exceptionally rare for me to get the creeps from haunting/ghosts stuff, but this one passed with flying colors. And, you know, Carla Gugino.

Pretty interesting that we are discussing a "big" decision made on Pearce. We all agree on what a great job Dave and Alex did this past season. Apparently those two decided it was a good deal. I think that both have decided that team chemistry means a lot during a LONG season. Pearce seems to fit well in their plan. A tough question though. How much is another title worth? I have a hard time handling contracts in the 300 to 450 mil range, for 12 to 14 years. The 450 number is about what the brewers are worth as a team according to forbes. The sox along with the yanks have gotten burned BIG time on large long term contracts. So after this coming season what does Dave do? I do not see how Dave keeps all of the core guys and has enough to fill in a complete title type team. How many guys can you have on a roster at 25 to 35 mil and stay in the 200 to 250 range? Knowing that some of those LONG term contracts will end up like a Pablo and Hanley dead money situation. Nothing would surprise me over the next 2 years. Dave has an eye for talent and the balls to make big trades. Any of the guys in the core up for free agency over the next 2 years, except for Mookie, could be traded. If Dave really believes that he can not sign Xander and JBJ he may move them this winter. Now he is NOT going to give them away. I look at it the same way as the Indians with kluber. Yup I see the approach that says go for broke in 2019 and let 2020 chips fall where they may. But I also see a dave D not wanting to lose those guys to FA and get basically nothing in return. Especially with no heir apparent on the farm. WOW How does Dave and Alex handle this dilemma?

And, you know, Carla Gugino. I didn't care much for Theo because she was such a Mary Sue and yeah Luke was a good character but something didn't click with me. For better or worse, the one character I ended up liking just a bit was Steve because he faced a somewhat real issue of both denying his past and feeding off it, closing his eyes to what happened around him and pretending to have been first hand witness. It felt genuine. It was a very well made series and the acting was on point, but I thought people were too chatty in it. Even the ghosts enjoyed a nice long chat. It took me out of the experience a bit.

I was wrong about Chron's value with the claim. Pearce is right where he should be if other team's value Chron around 5 million.
I feel better about the situation really. I hate spending a dime more than I should anywhere.
Be interesting to see what Trumbo gets now.

Cron, not Chron. And Trumbo isn't anywhere near as good as Pearce. Pearce is much better defensively (Trumbo is a complete hack). He also walks much more.
And last season, Pearce had a 140 wRC+ vs. all pitching and 158 vs. LHP compared to 107/111 for Trumbo. I wouldn't even want Trumbo on the roster for any reason.

Trumbo should be okay at just first base if he was used exclusively there. He's graded out pretty average over the last 7 years there in a small sample size. The problem really becomes when you try and throw him in the outfield for some reason. He's not a outfielder.
