Thanks for that article. I almost felt slimy just reading that. MLBPA HAS to agree to an International Draft.

Of the 13 players tracked for the Yankees, only 2 are from Venezuela.
It would appear that the Yankees brand advantage is more than offset by the Red Sox Venezuela advantage.
Regarding Dominguez, was it any more fair or unfair when the Red Sox signed Venezuelan Daniel Flores ?

If Flores continues on the trajectory he was on, that would have been 3 elite prospects we got Internationally. Not too shabby. What a sad and tragic story. SMDH

Another signing via Jesse Sanchez/MLB Pipeline:
Lyonell James, INF, Dominican Republic --$440,000
I believe James was at Fenway with Chacon.

For those who don't know, these players will go to the Academy in the DR to play in the "tricky league," which is kind of a JV DSL that is unofficial, no stats, etc. We'll hear from them next year on one of the two DSL squads.

So did I read that right... We signed another Diaz? Maybe the sox found a way to save money by buying uniform lettering in bulk?

Thank you VTsox for crushing the coverage yet again!
A couple of themes are pretty apparent today: 1) Its a heavy VZ class....proportionally heavier than last year and we've historically been aggressive in that market, and 2) Like last year, they're targeting a greater number of mid-sized bonus types (e.g., $100K - $1M) rather a few big bonus types (e.g., > $1M) and a bunch of low bonus guys. Just two years ago they signed only 4 guys for bonuses between $100K-$1M...last year that number grew to 12....this year we're already at 7 w/ limited info.

Next stop is going to be the Redsox buying a little league team in Cuba, Venezuela, etc... That way we can pick and choose who we want when they grow up. I can see it now.... they will cover it up by becoming a team sponsor like they do at home. A bunch of little kids will be running amok on the baseball field with Red Sock's Laundromat, and no one will ever see it coming! lol.

This isn't limited to the Red Sox, my guess, pretty much everyone.

CJ Chatham is my candidate with the Bogey's extension, the return of Marco and Lin's injury not being as bad as they thought. That would be a smart move if they could get real $, and totally worth it. He’s not a bad prospect as a viable SS, but really has no place on this team. I think your spot on buddy. I would think Chatham would hold a fairly nice value in the Intl trade market. Whoever grabs him will be getting a starting caliber SS or a high end Util. Players like that can rarely be had for essentially cash, which is much more intriguing. It also would help us a little when it comes to the Rule 5 time. I do like Chatham quite a bit, but I would be ok getting more in the bonus pool to take a higher profile guy. I am feeling better about the depth behind bogey coming as well so it would be a little easier loss if we had to.

Wow. When we didn't attack one of the top 25 guys I definitely didn't expect bonuses like this. They must feel pretty darn good about Chacon for that money. Juan Chacon sounds like a sweet drug lord name in the movies to boot lol. TBH though I will be rooting for one of these prospects in particular, which is Jhostynxon Garcia. The thought of any reporter or announcer trying to pronounce his name is too tempting to pass up haha.
