All I can now think about:
"The bodega man can because he mixes lots of pills and calls 'em Tiger Sex Pills..."

I expected they would non-tender him anyway.

I expected they would non-tender him anyway. Damn shame. Between his injuries and other issues, it prevented him from being a useful member of the rotation. I remember how well he pitched in 2016 and he had almost always been effective in his time with the Red Sox. I remember him hitting a groove in May or June 2018 pitching more than 20 scoreless consecutive innings, and then coming back to be their most effective setup man in September 2018, a guy Cora was going to lean heavily on in the post-season, and of course he couldn't, and then the starters had to double up as setup men, and perhaps that lead to their individual struggles this season. This guy could have been a 180 innings pitched, solid #3 starter, who didn't cost too much. As the Sox scramble for starting pitching, it's really too bad that this is what wound up happening to him.

Most probably predicted this but to me it’s further evidence our next GM or baseball OPs is in place.

We all kind of understand why he would be released, but because of his potential usefulness as a multi-inning RP in 2020, do we know the actual reasons why? General health? Knee? Personnel or personal issues? I suspect the four friends will have more releases/non-tenders soon, which demonstrates trust in them. But Stephen Wright seems to be a special case with his many level issues and many successes.

I'd suspect a team pinching pennies wouldn't want to be spending them on a guy who will likely spend most of his time on the DL. That knee injury is a really rough one to come back from. Pedroia really hasn't been able to do it, nor really has Wright for any extended length of time. Then when you get into the off-field issues, it makes it more a slam dunk that he wasn't coming back.

He was due to make about $1.5 million, threw 84 innings in the last three years, got suspended for domestic violence, and got suspended again because of his bodega sex pills, which he'd been advised not to take by the MLBPA.
Doug Fister threw more total innings in the last three seasons for the Red Sox than Wright did.

They must really think his knee is shot because there's no BB reason for a team that will have trouble finding competent starters for 162 games to release him and his $1.5M salary. If there's even a 40 percent chance that he could give them 10-12 league average starts, he's worth keeping.

... which means another year at a minimum, a year when he doesn't need to be on any roster this team has. B.B. King said it best: The Thrill is Gone.

Well now things make a bit more sense. As bad as his rehab had been you would have thought there had to be something extra. Sorry to hear about this current setback as anybody who saw him at his best knows what kind of talent he had.

The TJ surgery explains everything.
Next year's rotation is very sparse. And if they're looking to cut payroll, there's no money to add to it. I'm so not looking forward to all those Brian Johnson starts.

It's early yet. I updated the arb estimates, but those include Centeno and Leon, and my guess is one or both will be gone at some point. With both included in the estimates, there's a projected $10M available. I don't have any doubt there will be more changes, and I don't think it's a given that they stay below the $208M threshold this year.
