Speculate away, folks! I can tell you, based on what we saw, that it looks like Casas and Howlett will open in Greenville, while Northcut, Flores, and Diaz will not, with Decker one we're unsure of. Doesn't necessarily mean those guys go to Lowell though - they could definitely be on the Bogaerts XST to Greenville if they earn it plan. The rest of our current projections can be found here: www.soxprospects.com/2019.htm

The biggest question I have will be if Leon clears waivers and goes to AAA. That would be amazing to keep him as depth along with Centeno.
I'm also going to start the "is it time for Feltman to get promoted to AAA?" drive as the first promotion of the season.

Some scattered thoughts and questions I have when looking at the projections:
- Did Scherff show enough down the stretch last year when he found success in Greenville to start this year in Salem? - I'd hope Bazardo has a starting spot (either over Padron in Salem or somewhere in Greenville). Alternatively he could be piggyback guy. - Does Bello have a chance to begin in Greenville? - Granberg seems like a candidate to begin in Salem

I think Bello was with the XST group when we left. 75% sure on that. Would not surprise me to see a midseas chain promotion of he and Scherff. Granberg was dropped from Salem to Greenville on Sunday. My guess is they hope to give him a bump up early to clear a spot for one of the kids.

Few quick thoughts here too: LOVE Duran starting in Salem, and I’m getting progressively more excited to think he hits the ground running (by putting it in the air) and forces a June promotion to AA. Curious to see if he goes triples-happy in that park.
Have my eye on longshot Tanner Nishioka in Salem as well; he had an excellent year in Greenville and while he’s older as a Sr sign, he seems to have a very solid hit tool, and could maybe even be a viable future 2b option.
Zach Schellinger in Salem is the ‘pen arm to watch; he seems like, with health, he could be a fast-mover.
Mata back in Salem makes complete sense given the command issues, but he could push because the stuff is real. And biy, is he young. Ending the season in AA at 19 would be something else. I’d imagine his threshold to move is relatively low, considering he’s repeating.
Seems like Greenville is stacked with early promotion candidates, as noted, especially Scherff, if his mid season revival last year holds up. Pop-up top-100 guy if the velo really is back and performance matches talent.
Portland’s rotation is going to be a LOT of fun to follow. Two guys with fantastic stuff but iffy command, and another with iffy stuff but very good command and pitchability. I think all three could be promoted come July, with Houck and Hernandez temporary MLB bullpen candidates. Here’s dreaming that Denyi Reyes is Shane Bieber v2.0
Vaguely chagrined Lin is back in AAA and Nunez still has a spot, but it’s OK. Let’s hope Chavis sticks at 2B. Dalbec seems like another late May-early June promotion candidate if the K rate is reasonably under 30%.
What’s up with Alexander Montero? Glad to see he’s in Greenville, but what’s the injury? He’s another guy I think is a good pop-up candidate getting a full season in.

I’d imagine his threshold to move is relatively low, considering he’s repeating. . . . . Mata will 20 in May, so he would finish the year in AA (in your hypothetical promotion) at age 20. Your point still stands. He's still young and starting in Salem is the right move. Ending up in AA at age 20 would still be impressive. I'm expecting a bounce back year from him.

Yeah I always need to remind myself how young he is. He was born the same month as Brayan Bello, for example.

Did Trey Ball get cut and I missed it?

Did Trey Ball get cut and I missed it? No - "2019 Projected Rosters" Go the Taxi Squad in bottom right corner. Hard to say where he'll end up with the position switch (or is it a partial position switch?). But he's still there.

A very quick take on how the affiliates may fare based on current portrayal on the site
Pawtucket - OK starting pitching; at least interesting to see how Shawaryn fares, Shepherd solid - then three relative unknowns in Ramirez, Smith and Weber. Potentially strong pen with Lakins, Poyner and Walden, followed by some unknowns. Offense will put up some runs with Chavis, Ockimey, Lin, Brentz, Castillo. .500 ish team or slightly better....
Portland will be fun to watch with Darwinzon, Denyi and Tanner as starters, Feltman and Weems in the pen - offense beyond Dalbec and Chatham iffy - also .500 ish.
Salem will be worth following for pitchers Mata and Crawford and hitters Castellanos, Nishioka, Fitzgerald, Washington (maybe), Duran - I can see them putting runs up but giving up more - .500 or a bit below
Greenville - pitchers Scherff, Santana, Haworth, and hitters Casas, Howlett, Dearden, Decker, Esplin - I can see this being an over .500 team with a chance to get a look at some young promising players.
not going to go lower than Greenville. The lean farm system shows itself a bit, but there will be positive surprises, I suspect

He did play catch with the Salem team, for what it's worth, but he didn't do anything else. Also, Trenton Kemp appears to be hurt yet again. Guy can't buy a break.

Dang it. 18 was Greenville. My memory is like a ‘90s-vintage Dominican prospect birth certificate, apparently.

What are the opt out dates for Ramirez & Weber? I think Hernandez could be in AAA if either were to opt out.

Finally AAA Pawtuckett has reinforcements. I think it is obvious they are comfortable with the kids to help out in the bullpen. Eventually they will anyway. This is a good way for flexibility and control costs. I mean your scouting staff every year should be able to find you something in the draft.

Durbin Feltman skipping high A ball is something that I expected really. I thought this was going to happen.
This fast tracks him to potentially be a weapon that could be up earliest in June or July.

Hey, blame Lowell. Tweet is from an official Sox minor league team’s twitter and is relevant to the thread.

That was, in fact, directed to the tweet and not directed towards you. Apologies for any confusion!
1) Rosters weren't announced yesterday. 2) There's no way to follow along with the guys in XST. 3) They don't even announce who's going to Lowell until June. 4) Taken the wrong way this sounds like guys who get assigned to full-season teams will then go to Lowell (which happens... if a guy gets demoted).
Just really weird on a number of fronts.

Doesn't a big chunk of Lowell's roster usually consist of college draft picks from the same year?

I live very close to Winston-Salem... and enjoy seeing what the Salem Red Sox put on the field. Looks like maybe this isn't the year for top prospects to start the season. A few years ago I got to see Devers, Bentintendi and Moncada (along with others) several times. I love baseball - bring it on!
