Pawtucket roster is currently at 26. Will be at 27 when Travis gets sent back down tomorrow in exchange for Steve Pearce. There are still two moves to be made. Seems pretty clear that Lovullo and Romanski will strain their calves tonight.

Any word if there's a injury to Lakins?
His velocity was down in the spring. Like way down. He's had a propensity to get injured in his career.

Besides having only one catcher, their infield situation is also kind of weird. They have Downs (pure 1B), Benge (1B/3B), Castellanos (1B/LF, but they already have five actual outfielders on the roster), Fitzgerald (SS), and Nishioka (3B/2B). They don’t have anyone to back up their middle infield and that’s assuming that they move Nishioka back to second full time.

That's not the full Salem roster. Note that it's only 24 players. The one they emailed out also included Isaias Lucena as the other catcher, Jhonathan Diaz as, presumably, a member of the rotation, and Deiner Lopez as the missing infielder. The rosters at soxprospects.com/org.htm are now correct, pending guys being put on the IL today. Presumably, it'll be one of the pitchers like Hunter Smith, and one of the, as you pointed out, four corner infield-only guys. --- Separately, feels like a LOT of guys are playing "down a level" to start. I'm not seeing the point of keeping Witte and Tavarez in Portland, Cosart and Deiner Lopez in Salem. I get Oscar Hernandez in Portland is a direct result of Leon, but for the other guys, they feel like placeholders. As I understand it, the org wants guys from the Flores, Decker, Northcut crew to earn promotions to Greenville, which could push guys up, which could start solving, one way or another if you catch my drift, some of these depth demotions through chain transactions up the ladder.

Curcio to the Portland IL. Madden paper move to Lowell.
PawSox IL includes Romanski, Maddox, Montgomery, Putnam, Smith, and CDLG, but Romanski is the only one with the team.

Stacked and then some at pretty much every position. I was hoping Diaz would make the cut. If Cannon does sign and go to Lowell, it will be interesting to see how they divvy up the infield time.

I like Diaz in the GCL. For one thing, he's someone who will really benefit from consistent reps at third base, because he's athletic enough to handle the position - I was really surprised by how capable he was already when I saw him this spring. He also had some pretty terrible plate discipline numbers in the DSL. I don't put a ton of stock in DSL stats, but he's facing a lot of pitchers who just can't find the plate, and he wasn't even working them for walks. It's one thing if you're doing that and hitting .350 or whatever, but he hit .238. His OBP was 40 points below that of his team. The power is big, so it's going to be a question of whether he can work through his pitches to get into hitters counts.

The GCL isn't likely to be the greatest place to learn plate discipline either.

You could even argue that the Danny Diaz isn't even the most deserving Diaz to not make the Lowell roster. Jonathan Diaz had an >700 OPS last year at GCL and impressed some at Instructs but might find his way back to the GCL due to Jaxx and Elih Marrero being ahead of him in the org.

There are decent catching prospects at almost every level except maybe Pawtucket and Salem. At Lowell I like Elih's profile more than Jaxx' profile but haven't seen either.
What's the standard possessive form of Jaxx ?

I could've sworn that I saw that Diaz was in Lowell when the players first got up there, but I haven't seen him since and he's obviously not on the roster. Joan Martinez is definitely in Lowell. Probably will start a rehab assignment.

Do we have intel that Kevin Steen is ready to pitch again? I see him on the Lowell roster. Brass balls to him. T hat was was one messed up accident with some serious injuries. Just hope he's getting the chance to do what he wants to do.
