Nice looking swing. Maybe a tad too long, but everything else is very nice. I think we need to keep him in Greenville, he is only 19.

Idk...he’s been inching up BA-wise and BB-wise and the K rate creeping down. I’m not sure promoting him to high A (like the Mariners did Kelenic) is a bad idea. It all depends on how he’s reaching milestones they’ve set out for him. But if he keeps performing, I think an extended taste of the next level before starting there next year might be a good idea. Regardless, he’s on track to put up some impressive numbers for a 19-yo in his first professional season, and full-season no less. Last year!s draft is looking like a winner so far.

You nailed it. If he continues to figure things out, Portland end of 2020? That puts him, theoretically, within reach of 1B at Fenway some time in 2021 at age 21. Devers and Bogie did it. It may he a good idea to include this possibility in any projections regarding Dalbec, Chavis, Travis, Ockimey, Chatham, even JDM’s opt outs.

Congrats on the promotion for this 19 year old beast and great job by DD getting a talent like this at 26th overall

Yeah, I think they move Casas relatively slowly, a year at each level. If he really rips it in Salem, I could see him getting called up after the Carolina League ASB. But more likely, a late-season promotion to Portland. He’s probably three years away barring a spectacular development, so he fits JDM’s contract timeline. Dalbec should get a LONG look next year in MLB, and as a RHH that makes him sorrt pf redundant with (edit...meant to say) Chavis. But, he could see significant time at 2b, and it’s certainly possible he’s a 450 PA player there, with maybe a few reps at DH and 1b. I think (or hope, at least) that the team is willing to try cobbling together 1b/2b/non-Martinez DH amongst that group of players, and not dipping into the market for $6M platoon options and backups. Casas ideally arrives in time for JDM’s departure, and after Dalbec and Chavis have kind of settled into what can be expected of them. Sam Travis, while I had some hope, looks like a AAAA player. Idk if Ockimey ever makes enough contact in MLB to be anything other than a bench-end bat only for a second-division AL team (as much as I’ve hoped he might be; he’s still pretty young). And Chatham has value simply because he can play SS pretty well, but they’re going to need to get him AB in MLB soon. My guess is there’s a fair amount of bench turnover on the Sox this winter, but I do think they’ll keep Casas in mind to some extent, keeping their obligations to three years or less.

I live near Winston-Salem (Chicago White Sox "Dash" - High A affiliate), so I'm excited to see some top Salem Red Sox pass through. 2019 was mostly slim pickin's at the High A level for Boston.

Found this tweet from Eric Cross (writer for Fantrax) which shows the minor league leaderboard for 2019 FB distance among all players < 20 yrs old. Casas in at #2 which might not be a shocker, but look who is at #11. Now granted, this list includes all players under 20 regardless of level, so while Casas was young for the level at Greenville, Belen was old for the DSL. Still, he's definitely someone I'm interested in seeing how he performs stateside.

Appropriate to the still lingering Christmas season (at least in my neck of the woods), the word for Bethlehem in Spanish is Belen.

I hope he doesn't end up moving from 1B to LT.

He must have a 15-foot wingspan at this point. First ever player who gets called an albatross but it's meant as a compliment.
